I'm not real sure. I would ask your doctor a lot of questions about it. But honestly, unless you plan on aborting, what good is the test going to do? I really don't think there is anything that they can do to change things if the baby does have downs syndrome, is there? Why do they think that? You know, I have heard of people that have had tests done, and they have come back positive and not really been positive also. I'm not saying this would happen to you, I just would hate to see you get stressed. I wish you the best of luck and hope that all works out well for you and your baby.

As with anything there are chances of infection but those chances are very minimal. Explain to your OB that you are concerned about the test being safe and they can give you all the information on it and don't worry about seeming like a paranoid patient that is what they are there for.

yes my friend was told the same thing they skipped the test and the baby was perfectly normal! and the same thing happened to both of her sister in laws and all the babies came out normal..the first tests where they told u that ure child might have it is 100% statistical its not a proven fact so relax it doesnt mean really anything!

Of course it's safe to get the test done. It's a routine procedure, one they do all the time. It's best to know for sure.

It is absolutely essential as well as safe to get the test done, to rule out Down's syndrome.
Don't skip it.
