I hate bridges,...and going on the freeway. I don't drive, even at my cheery old age..and because of this I imagine,...it terrifies me when we go for a ride...I imagine every rude driver in the world is going to hit us...and sit there mummifed most of the ride with a sweaty nervous smile on my face lol...and going over the bridges? fuggetaboutit.....I lean toward my husband in the car like that would save me from falling into to the water lmao...anyway, it is horrible to have a fear like that, but it is not debiliating.

Just to let you know.. 80% of people are afraid of the dark. Adults and Children, Men and Women. If you have a fear of something really bad..your mind is going to play tricks on you, especially if you keep thinking about the fear more and more while it's happening. When you hear stuff like screaming and crying, you are most likely hearing sounds that your mind and imagination are turning into other sounds. It's like dreaming. Everything gets all messed up! Now, if you are hearing those noise's when you are awake, A LOT..you definitely should talk to a professional about it. It is probably not anything that bad, so don't worry too much about it. In the mean time..I would definitely have a really bright night light!

Nyctophobia (from Greek "night" and phobia, also called scotophobia, "darkness", lygophobia, from lyge - "twilight", or achluophobia or noctiphobia) is a pathological fear of the dark. Its symptoms include breathlessness, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, feeling sick, shaking, heart palpitations, inability to speak or think clearly or sensation of detachment from reality. Normally, since humans are not nocturnal by nature, humans are usually a bit more cautious or alert than in the day, since the dark is a vastly different environment. Nyctophobia produces symptoms beyond the normal instinctive parameters.
Sufferers have an abnormal and persistent dread of the dark and experience anxiety even though they may rationally understand that the dark does not pose such a great threat. Treatment options are typical for any of specific phobias.
Nyctophobia is most often associated with children.

haha i am 23 years old and still scared of the dark not as bad when I was a kid I slept with a nite light till i was 13. And I always had to have one light turned on before another came off. still can't sleep in the dark. I don't ever hear voices or nothing. I just get stupid thoughts. And these thoughts are not good.. I don't know what to do about it. I just live with it.

I'm afraid of the dark to a certain extent. I don't like to be alone outside in the dark, but in the comfort of my own home I'm fine. Except when I read something scary or watch something scary right before bed. Then my imaginations takes me away.

Maybe you are sensitive to whats going on on the other side. I have known people who are like that. They can hear and see things that mose people cant. But if it is just being afraid of the dark then dont fret, most people are! Just try to meditate yourself to sleep....

Being afraid of dark is inherited you from your ensestors(spelling?)who lived thousands of years ago in caves with no protection. This phobia of yours is coming from your genes, your instincts and actually has no meaning at all...You need to learn more and overcome this.

Maybe you live in a haunted house and those things really are there. You should call Ghostbusters.
