Ok, for a "teen boy" buy something alongthe lines of a mid 90's Civic or Integra. If you have a bit more money to spend get a Prelude. All of which are reliable cars with modest insurance rates. If you're looking to modify any o these cars you may wish to do so, considering the high scale of domestic and Japanese tuning companies. For you, I would suggest a 3rd gen Integra GS or GS-R if you can afford it. The difference really just being the stiffer chassis and if i' correct the GS-R has 170hp at the crank.

Well, I wrecked the first car I ever drove, after about a year of driving. Even though a lot of first time drivers do better than I did, it helps to think safety. How about an older Volvo 240 or 740 series? They're cheap, safe, and dependable. Insurance is cheap, too. And the turbo ones can be a lot of twisted fun to drive. A wagon would be great if you're going to college - trust me, huge cargo room and the ability to carry a lot of friends will come in handy there.
