One could say that pain and pleasure are relative experiences. But that is not strictly true.

Pleasure exists as a motivator for us to do things -- procreation comes readily to mind here. Our brains are hardwired to enjoy certain things, and the amount that we enjoy those things changes depending on our needs. For example, we feel good if we eat when we are hungry, or seek comfort and warmth when we are tired; whereas creatures that do not seek food until they are famished, then pass out in an open area in cold wind would quickly become weak, sick and vulnerable to attack.

Natural selection could be seen to favour creatures whose pleasure centres closely follow their survival instincts.

Pleasure and pain in this world are simply flickering sensations experienced by the body and mind that don't have anything to do with real pleasure and pain. What we take to be pleasure for the body and mind is not actually pleasure, but is actually a distraction meant to keep us from seeking the transcendental bliss of spiritual life. This distraction is known in Sanskrit as Maya or illusion.

Material life is actually nothing but pain, because in material life we are steeped in ignorance of the Lord, and this is the source of all pain. But the Lord is so kind that even though we choose to forget Him, He still allows us to think we are happy and this gives us encouragement to continue in our selfish pursuits. So He's giving us what we want in all circumstances.

Real pleasure is the bliss experienced in the association of the Lord, serving Him in loving devotion. He is the reservoir of all pleasure and to be engaged in loving devotional service immerses us in that ocean of bliss.

There is a lot of pleasure. Every day my daughter crawls in my lap to love on me, every sun rise and sun set, pleasure is different for every person, you have to find your own.

without pain there can be no pleasure. you could'nt feel pleasure if there was no pain because you would'nt have anything to compare it to so it would not exist
