with cell phones, e-mail and lap tops does anyone still carry a pager/ beeper?

a lot of doctors and nurses carry beepers because they are more reliable than a cell phone and usually always get signal.

Yes. Everybody I work with is issued a Motorola text pager served by Arch Wireless. It sucks having to carry a beeper that is just as big as a folded cell phone.

For starters I do. I live with in miles (28) of Canada and cell phones have too many blank areas. My pager works in all of the areas without fail. Also Hazmat and fire brigade teams carry pagers over cell phones in this area because of reliability.

No, but I kind of use my cell as a beeper. All calls are 'missed calls'. I then return the calls to the people that I am interested in talking too.

yes... persons who work on call in prison are not allowed to have cell phones so they use pagers/beepers

Many many many.
Most doctors carry pagers because they cannot have their cell phones
turned on when they enter a hospital.

Yes, my mom carries a pager but it is for her job. She also has a cell phone. They page her if they can't reach her on her cell.

My dad does, he has a bunch of cell phones too but for some reason he won't get rid of that damn pager. He's like 57, so I don't laugh too much, he's a fogey.

Most people in public service aka firefighters, EMTs, paramedics.
I'm an EMT and HAVE to carry my pager at all times. How do you think we respond to calls??
