Readers of a US parenting magazine are crying foul over the publication's latest cover depicting a woman breastfeeding, with some calling the photo offensive and disgusting.

I do not understand why? If a parent subscribes to this type of magazine, they are subscribing to the thoughts, ideas, opinions and advice that this magazine has to offer, such as breastfeeding tips and so on. If one is so grossly offended by such topics, then why subscribe to this sort of magazine?

The sole purpose of the female breast is, in fact to nourish newborn children.

What is your take on this?

It is ridiculous for people to behave this way, but they say nothing about the half naked women showing REAL naughty parts that my children are subjected to in line at the grocery. People are just incredibly ignorant. I breastfed all my children, whether there were people around or not, and was perfectly comfortable. To those who had a problem with it, grow up!!!! Men go to strip clubs, but balk at seeing a woman feed her newborn?!! Get a life! This is just one more thing that makes Americans look like a bunch of fools to the rest of the natural world. Until women are forced to hide bottles while feeding, leave the breastfeeding women alone. Breastfeeding is an art, and an act of love. Babies who aren't breastfed are at a disadvantage, and I feel very sorry for them. They are neglected.

I thought this was a very sweet picture. Having breastfed both of my daughters, I loved the look on the baby's face in the picture. It is of complete adoration and contentment. I agree... parents who subscribe to a magazine generally reflect the ideals posted in it. However, I bet that the "foul cries" are not those of this magazine's subscribers. I don't know what could be offensive about feeding your child... I have seen a lot more offensive eaters out of grown-ups at restaurants. People are entitled to their opinion, however... no matter how inane it may be. No matter the subject, there will always be someone it "offends". This country tries too hard to be compromising for everyone- and that old addage holds true... "you can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time".

It's a gorgeous photo. About as natural a photo as someone sitting down to a home-cooked meal on the cover of Family Circle or Woman's Day.

That there is such a backlash over this cover just points to how immature Americans can be. It's a boob, a breast, a teat, in other words: LUNCH. Get over it!

I completely agree. Personally, I LIKED the cover of the magazine. People need to reevaluate their views on breastfeeding. It's recommended as the number one choice for baby for the first year of life. Yet, over half of all Americans say a woman should not be allowed to breastfeed in public.

What the hell is wrong with our country? Just because the breast is considered to be "sexual," it doesn't take away from what it's purpose is. To NOURISH our babies!

I think the people who have a problem with it are nuts. It's a BEAUTIFUL picture. Just look at that baby's eyes! You can tell that s/he is staring up at mom so intensely! BEAUTIFUL!

It's a parenting magazine. You should EXPECT to see pictures and read stories about breastfeeding in it. It's NOT a porn mag for God's sake!

People need to accept that HUMANS ARE MAMMALS and get over themselves. It's NORMAL.

The mother on the cover is showing LESS breast than you'll see in the next Victoria's Secret commercial or on the red carpet at the Oscars.

I agree. Some people are such prudes. Of course there are proper places and times to do such things but, this is a baby magazine.

I am with you on this one, I don't understand people...it is a wonderful experience and yes the female breast nourishes newborns. I think people are still so afraid of it and it astonishes me. Geez! She is feeding her child the way nature intended. I don't even subscribe however give upmost kudo's to the editor!

Because no matter how much research is done or how many benefits linked to breastfeeding are discovered, there will always be ignorant people out there who think it isn't natural, or that Michaelangelo's "David" should be clothed.

The fact of the matter is, people tend to walk the beaten path, even if it's bad for them.

Oooh! Awww. It's adorable. People have so many sexual hangups, they forget breasts are for breastfeeding. All the cows udders we look at, nobody ever thinks cows are obscene. The boob is huge as someone mentioned, but all feeding boobs are. I didn't know about the cover but it is lovely in my opinion, that of a 7 month pregnant woman who plans to feed my baby the way I was intended to. THANKS!

I agree with you this is pathetic. they should just give it up i mean seriously. You can't even see the woman. People should just relax. Beside the fact tht it's a parenting magazine. I think a lot of people are way too uptight
