It's disgusting, but I can't say anything to him about it because he gets really offended if you try to criticise anything about him. It's unbearable, I can't stand being in the same room as him when he eats, it literally makes me feel sick.

just go in there and be like, "dang dad, you act like you never ate before!!!!" and then laugh at him. If he can't laugh about himself then he has problems and you should just turn up your music really loud next time he's eating.

Just endure it and try to ignore it. It is lip smacking? Moaning? Try to find the humor in it. I know that may be difficult cause you are related to him. You could always try imitating him and maybe he could see what it's like when someone else does it.
I have an uncle that moans and groans through every meal - you'd think he was having an orgasm - we just laugh at him, it's funny - he's old - it's not like he's going to change now.
Just don't let it effect your feelings for you Dad - be happy he's still around making his noise.

This will only get worse. Think of when he goes out to dinner with your fiancee. Or eats at your wedding.

Can you speak to your mom and ask her to intervene. He obviously does not know what a slob he is. Maybe you could print some of these answers and give them to him. Parents can be so cruel sometimes with their total unawareness of the real world.

I feel your pain. I had the exact same situation at one time and smacking also bothers me a whole lot. I guess you could try wearing headphones and listening to a cd or something... thats pretty good for blocking out other sounds.

He is your dad - get a backbone learn to live with it - otherwise I guess you'll just have to kill yourself because it is so unbearable & disgusting.

i have the SAME problem you do. but i TELL my dad it bothers me. and he'll lower the t.v. volume, but i can STILL hear it. so we had like, sound proof walls to block his LOUD t.v.
but i can STILL hear it, so i just learn to live with it. i can't close my door because i hate having my bedroom door closed.

Well, if it makes him mad if you tell him about it, then I guess you could just get earplugs. I'm sorry for you though.
