We have a Golden Retriver and he barks at everything. We have bought one of the bark collars (the one that you can shock or make the high pitch noise) but it dosen't seem to work. I know that they are very noisy dogs but he wakes us up at night just because he is barking at the wind. I don't like to yell at him I really don't like the collar but we are at our wits end. Please help we love our dog but don't want him to get hurt because of making a neighbor mad.

Well, actually, what you can do is try and train him if you can. If you don't know how you can contact me or some other trainer. Listen, I ave trained many dogs and I had one like yours. He was a black lab named Hugo and he was terrific. Though, he had one problem. Barking. So what I did was whenever he barked at something, I told him no very firmly but not too mean. Whenever he didnt bark at something he usually does bark at, I gave him a treat. Also, you can try and see if he is scared of anything in your house. Maybe a big object or something. Well please contact me for further information. Thnx.

I went through this exact same problem with my American Eskimo! He would bark at anything! Even during the middle of the night he would just randomly starts barking! Then we got complaints from our neighbors so we needed to figure out something right away.
We bought a collar that would supposedly shock him every time he barked but it didn't make any difference. So instead, i heard that most dogs hate to be splashed with water.
So, every time he started barking i went outside and splashed water and shouted "quiet". Eventually he learned to stop barking when nothing is there and even when he does rarely bark i shout the word "quiet" as a reminder and he stops barking right away.
I hope this helps at least a little.... i know what its like to have a non-stop barking dog.

We have a lab that we tried the bark collar with we even bought a dog trainer, the ones that go up to 300 feet away and have 6 stages of shock, I guess they are just really stupid animals in that sense. We just had to break down and make ours an inside dog, and actually for him being 3 and 70lbs he does make a great inside dog!

Obedience classes will help. Make sure your dog has food and water easily available. Sometimes if our dog runs out in the middle of the night she will bark untill someone gets up and gives her some then she's fine.

you can get soft muzzle that will allow the dog to drink water, but will not allow him to bark. I kept it on my dog for a short time when he would bark, and after a few days, all I had to do was pick it up and show it to him, and he would stop barking. Hope this helps.

It is imperative that you get your sweetie pie to a trainer. (smile) Perhaps a little training might help. Is he usually kept outside? A friend of mine said that he had his dog inside for at least a year and as he got bigger - he put him outside with his own 'house', and beautifully fenced yard. "Goldie" didn't like it one bit and he would bark outrageously until someone let him back in the house. He took the dog to obedience school and now he's quiet, mannerable and well-behaved. Perhaps this might be what your dog needs.

WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE BARK COLLAR TO YOU PRESS IT LIKE YOU PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE REMOTE OR DO YOU HOLD IT FOR AT LEAST 10 SECONDS? IF YOU ARENT HOLDING IT DOWN YOU ARE NOT USING IT RIGHT AND THE DOG IS NOT GETTING THE FULL EFFECT OF IT. TRY THIS TOO TAKE 8 OUNCES OF WATER A TABLESPOON OF VINAGER AND WHEN YOUR DOG IS BARKING (YOU HAVE TO GET IT WHILE ITS BARKING OR IT WONT WORK) SPRAY IT. IF NEITHER OF THOSE WORK TRY A DOG TRAINING CLAS THEY HAVE THEM AT PETSMART.

Try going to a trainer they usually have different ideas for different dogs. Also try to pin point what will stop him from barking and try to extend on it.
