Hi, I am getting a female Shih Tzu puppy at the end of August. She will be 6 weeks old when I get her, does anyone have any tips on housetraining her or teaching her tricks and stuff like that?

Thanks in advance!

Oh, congrats! I absolutely love my shih tzu to death. Training is simple. Just take your puppy out every half an hour to an hour. After she is playing, eating, drinking or sleeping, taking them out to the bathroom is a must. Start with tricks early. Just be consistent with it. If you want your dog to sit, help her sit and give her a treat. Do this for 10-15 minutes. Do this a few times daily until she gets the hang of it. I recommend that you keep your puppy groomed. My shih tzu has short hair, i don't allow it to get long like it's supposed to. I just keep him shorter than what he should be. It's hard because their hair gets so long, that everything gets tangled in it. Show you dogs lots of attention, take it everywhere with you. Oh, and play with its feet, ears, etc. My dog only bites me when I touch his feet or his ears. Just have her get used to people playing with her ears and feets and tail.

Good luck and I know that you fall in love with your little shih tzu!

hi, i have a neutered male, the training is just do the same thing over an over, take her out every 2hrs, an rite after a meal. the most important thing is the grooming, her hair will get very tangled up. just brushing does not help much, will need a groomer to give a puppy clip, to keep the hair short so it will not tangle so bad. good luck,
