People cannot smell their own breath cuz the air they breath out is the same as the air in their nose, and thus no distinction can be made. Someone needs to tell them so they can do something about it. However, if you just had a toothe removed or had garlic pizza, you can guess that your breath might be offensive for a while!

Well considering the fact that if someone has plucked up courage to go to the dentists in the first place, then they realise that they have a problem but they see the problem as pain not as a silly thing like the smell that is a result of the pain!

unfotunately, people with bad breath cannot smell it themselves, they may have a slightly metalic taste in their mouth but that's about it.
If you lick the back of your hand and wait for it to dry and then sniff it, it may tell you if your breath is a bit whiffy. the only other way is for a trusted friend to tell you, but their usually too embarassed for you to broach the subject and leave you oblivious too it.

At least that's what I've heard.

I don't think the person knows they have it. I used to work with a well sexy man with the worst breath ever, he asked me out but I had to refuse due to his repulsive breath. It's hard to tell someone their breath is rancid.

I suppose they do realise it, but maybe not that much.I have an Indian that works with me and once I was nearly sick when he spoke to me! Just as well I had ate no lunch! It was only "bleeeeh......bleeeeeh....bleeeeh", and he was looking at me not understanding! I had to ask him not to speak to me that day, I said I was grumpy and didn't want to talk. I didn't want to make him feel bad... Coooor! (My bosses have told him other times)
