Well, if it is true that your son died for protecting a foreign country, you have my sympathies. However, I couldn't help but notice a certain pattern here.

Let's take a look:

This one from boymv20: (Yesterday)

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Am9zJ0F_KTo.up.DWV7Nvl_sy6IX?qid=20060805113352AAlTQKb

This one from boymv21: (Yesterday)

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoTaBuajQ5X3lS0gkZRa3iLsy6IX?qid=20060805114603AA0X7Zv

And now today, boymv19 has made his appearance! And all of them the same type of question! And all three accounts opened on the very same day! I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but my goodness!

As to why we send our kids to Iraq, it is not so they will die. For crying out loud, we have the lowest death rate among combatants since the Revolution!

Take a look:

American Revolution: 25,324 (Bunker Hill cost 400 American lives.)

War of 1812: 2,260

Mexican War: 13,283

Civil War (Union): 498,332
(Confederacy): 364,821 (Antietam cost 5,000 lives on both sides: bloodiest day in American history)

Spanish-American War: 2,446

World War I: 116,516 (Battle of Somme cost 19,240 British lives on a single day (total British casualties that day: 57,470))

World War II: 405,399

Other Nations' Losses in WW II:

Soviet: 10,000,000
German: 3,500,000
Japan: 1,500,000
British: 280,000 (At Dunkirk the British suffered 68,000 casualties)

Korean War: 54,246

Vietnam War: 56,244

Panama Invasion: 23

Gulf War (1991): 148

Gulf War II (2003-7/31/2006): 2,578

Something to think about.

I am sorry about your loss.

Do not make his loss or memory into something bad. He enlisted (that is signed up for) the military. It was his choice, for whatever reason...whether it was for educational benefits or to just travel the world for free. When these young adults (I will refrain from using the word kid....as our soldiers are not children and deserve more respect than that), enlist they know the world climate and know what they are getting into, especially since 9-11, yet these young adults continue to enlist at even higher rates. I've heard that during the enlistment process the recruiters are actually able to tell the new recruits that they will probably be in Iraq or Afganistan within 16-18 months....and they still sign up.

Your Tommy was defending America on foreign soil. He stopped that bullet from being shot here in our streets. He stopped that bullet from hitting an innocent US Citizen. He should be commended for his commitment, patriotism, and for his sacrifice. Nobody wants to see our soldiers killed, but many of you forget that people want to see our civilians, women, and children killed and slaughtered either.

These are trying times for everyone and the world is not a safe place. Let's keep the wars overseas.

Because someone has to. When we stop standing up to terrorists and terroristic regimes over there, next thing you know they will be over here. Unfotunately in war people die. Some die, most survive. I was over there and came back ok. I wish it had been the same for your Tommy.

And to rebutt some of the other answers you've received, the men and women serving in our military are not just "young and stupid" they are the best people in America. Those willing to sacrifice all for the rest of us. For those that think they are smarter or better than those kids that have died so that they can have the luxury's they have today... that is the saddest part.

Died for nothing huh? you tell that to all the other parents that saw their childrens funerals as they saw the casket draped with the flag coming off the bird. Im sorry you feel that way. If he was protecting a foreign country was he really doing nothing? He signed the contract and took the oath . one of the verses was "i will protect this nation against all enemies foreign and domestic" a kid doesnt make those kinds of decisions. He made the ultimate sacrifice for the better of everyone.

Guess you are the real victim as you still have deep feelings and will carry them to the grave. In all wars the soldiers who have the most to lose have the least to gain even if they win. Just wish the American voters would realize this war is to make millionaires into billionaires and has nothing to do with freedom. There is no way I could even begin to understand how you must feel at this time of your life.

my son is just a year old, but i will raise him to realize that he could die and nothing will be done about his death but a "oh well" when he could raise a family here in the States and die and someone would say "he was a good father and husband". really, i think its more honerable to die here in the States than it is to die out in the other foreign war. the deaths are dismissed over there as "a need for our country". i dont think its a need. i think the war is just a waste of time and money, and now its becoming a great loss of life.

I do morn for you, and i apologize your son had do die in this war.
i hope you will be okay.

No one sent me, I volunteered, just like everyone else in the military. When there is a draft then you can complain, till then, your son made his own decision and there's nothing wrong with it. You didn't make him join so you didn't send him. If "you" don't want your kids to join that's your decision, if they join anyway it's there own choice.

Maybe you shouldn't let them drive either, since more people die in car accidents every year, especially young drivers who are "more impressionable" and think driving is so cool. Make sure they don't have sex because AIDS and other STDs are spreading among young people too. And since people want to ***** about the war why don't you ***** about alcohol being legal, since alcohol related accidents still claim more lives each year than the war does.

Being the mother of a soldier and the widow of a soldier I can tell you if my son died last week the last place I would be is on yahoo answers. You are a pathetic excuse for someone trying to push an agenda at the cost of those who truly have lost a loved one to war.!

We? Does this statement mean that YOU sent your kid to die in Iraq??? Hmm...I sent my son to fight for America's freedom.

It was your son's CHOICE to enlist, as we are an all volunteer force. HE did not believe he was fighting for NOTHING. Why would you let him down by saying such a thing now?

Some people only find comfort in blaming. I hope it helps your grief. God bless.

What kind of sick pleasure do you get when you start posting these questions. I think you are a liar. A very young one. I've read your other postings, and I sincerely doubt you're a parent.

And yes I would go to Iraq. BTW our military is an all volunteer army.
