I've heard that lavender repels moths just as effectively as mothballs. You can purchase little mesh bags, fill it with fresh lavender and hang it around infested areas.

Plain old Naptha Moth Balls and DE Dust Are both totally safe for Cats, Dogs, Chickens, Rabbits, Parrots, Cute Budggy Birds, and normally Children as well. the Moth Balls you hang in an old Panty Hose tied up in the closet on the hanging rail.

The DE Dust you use all over the bedroom on the Floor and in the dressers.. DE Dust also kills Fleas and there Larvae as well Sprinkle it all over covered carpeted areas like under tables where the fleas hide and breed and the Cats play.

My wife sprinkles it around after she Vacuums every time and on our dog and Cats Sleeping Areas,, No Fleas in our House..

If you really want to clean everything get a 16 ounce Bottle of Kleen Free, Mix 8 oz in a gallon of water and spray all your clothes until they are damp moist that will kill all the larvae and eggs as well,, Kleen Free is just a concentrated soap and it works great.. But it Kills all Kinds of Bugs with the Enzymes in it.

DE Dust is Diatomaceous Earth is totally organic, safe and contains less than 1/2% percent of Crystalline Silica! Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is Mother Nature's product and is not harmful to the environment, pets or to people.
Great Stuff!!!!!

Like the others said also check and see if you have any flour out and not sealed or maybe even sealed but more than 60 days old.. Here in Hawaii they love Pancake flour best of all.. as an example..

When we open any Flour we always add a Tablespoon or so of DE Dust to the Box or Bag And Shake it up real well so it is totally mixed in, as that will kill them instantly and it's perfectly safe to eat and it's actually good for you... just make sure you buy a food Grade

lol, i love the "I have cats?" part. anyway, what you need to do is find a surefire method of getting rid of those breeding moths, safely! especially if you have cats (if the moths are especially big they will try to eat/steal your cats - I should know, I'M an expert)

Moths live in closets and places that you store your food. This will sound gross but check your food like cereal and mashed potato flakes for larva.
Use cedar hangers and put moth balls in a dish in your cupboards so your cats cant get at them.

It sounds like you live in a log home. Get moth balls and place them all over the place. That will drive them away.

Yes, they may be coming from your flour or any type of meal you might have that's not in a sealed container. If that's the case, throw it out and when you replace it, keep it inside a closed plastic bag or some other type of closed container. I store my flour in the refrigerator.
