i'm an 18 year old going into college for the firs ttime and i was wondering if anyone could give me a brief description of the schooling i'd need to become a vet. i know the first year or so i'll need my basics but after that... what? anyone know?

(p.s. the reason i'm posting this in here is because i think most vets who are answering questions will be in here.. :] )

I'm currently in undergrad, and I'm applying to vet school this fall. Different vet schools have different requirements, but most of them require:

Chemistry I and II
Organic Chemistry I and II
Physics I and II
Calculus I and II
Biology I and II
Biochemistry
Microbiology

At least, those are the main classes that I have taken/am going to take before I go to vet school.
You can probably find a handbook or list of requirements online for whichever vet schools you're thinking of applying to, as opposed to contacting the school for a paperback book b/c I know a lot of vet schools are posting requirements online instead to save paper. Good luck with your schooling and I hope this helps!

I've determined that holistic vet care is going hand in hand with conventional vet care. My puppy sees each a "consistent" vet and a holistic vet. If I had been on your role, I could most often take a urine pattern to the consistent vet and spot if they may be able to uncover out what the challenge is. It is also some thing as useful as a urinary tract contamination. A useful urinalysis should not be too luxurious and can no less than provide you a establishing factor. Then you'll deal with it holistically if you happen to choose. Might be ready to save lots of your self a travel to the holistic vet. Or, by the point you get your appointment with the holistic vet your puppy is also feeling greater and you'll maintain the appointment and simply use it as a session to peer if there are every other matters you'll/must be doing.

You would have to go to a regular university first and get a Bachelor of Science degree in either Pre-veterinary medicine or Zoology. This usually takes 4 years, then you would apply to vet school which you would attend for an additonal 4 years.

Most vet schools will happily get you the pre-requisite information for their programs. There are also programs that you may be able to get involved in that can help you in other ways, such as with getting to know the faculty (very important!), and possibly getting an inside track with the vet school application.

keep researching, and good luck. It is the best profession in the world!

Contact your local vet school and ask them to mail you a catalog of the classes that are recommended so you don't waste your time taking classes you don't need. You need 4 years undergrad school, then 4 years of vet school.
