First of all, ask yourself if there is something you can do about the situation. If there is, do it! If there's not, worrying and stressing are absolutely useless. They will not change the outcome of the situation. What's going to happen will happen.

It's normal to worry about things but if you let it build up too much it can negatively effect your mental and physical health. It can be hard to break this pattern but it's not impossible.
You have to work on ways to nip your worries in the bud before they escalate into a cycle of stress. When a worry pops into your mind, ask yourself, "can I do anything about this right now or in the near future?" If you can think of something positive to remedy a worry then write down the solution. If not, then do something distracting to shift that worry away and focus on something else.
Such as taking three deep breaths, counting to 10 or taking a brisk walk around the block.
Other ways to allieviate stress and worry are:
Keeping a calendar of all your appointments and responsibilites so that you don't have to try and remember everything.
Take care of your physical health by getting regular check ups, exercising and eating right. When you're physically run down you'll feel even more stress.
Schedule time that's just for you, even if it's a half hour a day. Take a relaxing bath, read a favorite book or listen to soothing music. Allow yourself to relax and nurture yourself.
Say no...don't take on too many commitments. If people are asking a lot of favors then learn to say "no, I'm just not able to do this now."
Lower your standards by not expecting too much of yourself (or of other people) and allow yourself to make mistakes sometimes.
Mistakes can also be great learning experiences.
Whenever you find yourself starting to worry about little things, gently tell yourself, "I'm not going to allow myself to worry," and focus on something else that can keep you occupied for a while until your mind relaxes.
Purchase a meditation CD and use it to help your mind become more calm and focused. With practice meditation can help a lot.
If the worry and stress in your life become too much, then be sure to ask your family doctor to refer you to a qualified counselor or therapist who can help you find ways to alleviate the stress and improve your life.

It depends on what you're stressing about. If you never let things go- then you'll always be stuck in the past. Or if you haven't dealt with whatever is bothering you , that's probably why you can't seem to let go. Try and make a list of all the things that are bothering you, then deal with them one at a time. Good luck.

Exercise more and find something else to occupy the time you spend worrying (fun activities, volunteer work, etc.)
I'm the same way and I have to work really hard to "not stress out."
Exercise definitely helps!

first, find something that you like to do, then focus on that until you are at least a little calmer, when you are calm, talk it out with some friends, and try to keep yourself preoccupied. second, try to develop some sort of physical activity that you can do every day, then repeat

I have developed my one, five and ten year strategy. I ask myself will it matter in one year?five? ten? If the answer is no to any of those questions, I forget it. Why waste my life on things that won't matter to me in the future.
