They aren't at all. Pioneering in lots of fields and have brought about a lot of good for the world.

Come on, there's more to life than provoking other people into doing things. That's being a pointless pox.

I've got a Belgian built Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0i, that has a top speed of 120mph, cruises at over 85mph with petrol (gas) consumption of over 40mpg and requires 1pint of oil once a year. It's 15 years old and never sees an oil change.

It isn't American engineers that are crap, it's American managers and shareholders. Much of the money goes into managers' pockets and perks and a lot in shareholders dividends. Managers' salaries are included in the payroll costs that someone is blaming unions for!

Of course the larger amount of the payroll is for workers, it takes hundreds of workers to build thousands of cars and only one manager to f*ck things up.

Managers are scared of making decisions that might be wrong so they choose the quickest, cheapest, simplest option rather than the best one. They are ably supported by the Accountants and other assorted 'bean counters'.

The best engineering race are the Scottish. Do any of you supposed 'techy types' read any history, or indeed read anything at all?

I have a GM and a ford. Let me tell you something my cars work great. I get the oil charged and a tune up every 3000 miles. I have never had such good cars.I'm not a redneck gun Salinger or any of the nasty things that one preson said.
Cars are made to get you from point a to b and sometimes c.

American engineers are fine, why spend money deloping american cars if they are only going to be driven by fat gun toting redneck burger eating idiots?

Instead the the intelligent Americans buy European cars and work as Engineers or some similar profession doing lots of good and exciting work and research.

There is nothing wrong with American engineers. They are as good as any in the world. What you have a problem with, and so do I, is the attitude of American business that is generally run by an accountant with his MBA who puts restrictions on the engineers and others to produce products that are "cost effective".

an American tourist was watching a workman laying paving stones in London city centre. He started to brag to the workman and criticise the way the workman was just plonking the slabs down and batting them into place.
"Back in the States, we got instruments that can measure to within thousandths of an inch" he was saying.
The workman coolly turned to the guy and said "That's no good to me"
the American asked "Why not?"
"Coz I've gotta be SPOT ON ! " said the workman.

Thought that just about sums it up :)

The only thing that is crap are your questions and were you born a jerk or did you slowly develop into one?

b/c they are about inventing new stuff, not perfecting old designs.

Cars are crap b/c all GM's money goes to labor unions, and not R&D
