Personally, I like those words and feel that the pledge wouldn't be the same. Like it would have less meaning.

I think that the words "Under God" should always remain in our pledge. This country has always remained quite religious and traditional, and it is tradition to keep the words in the pledge. It would upset most of the American population if those two words were removed from the pledge because those two words represent so much of America. Many of our ancestors came to America for religious freedom, and it would be a terrible shame if those two words, those two important words of reason and truth, were removed. Let them stay.

I wish to take this opportunity to make a point...There is no comma, hence no pause, between the words: one nation under God, when reciting the pledge. The sentence is to flow smoothly without hesitation! (The Knights of Columbus were instrumental in having the phrase added to the pledge.) Check your history, folks. Our country was NOT founded by deists!!! Also, too many people are indicating that there is no God in the Jewish faith! That is erroneous and Christians alone cannot claim that this phrase applies only to their faith.

First of all, great question Lisa! I'm all for keeping "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Without God, there would be nothing! It's really sad that there's a debate in the first place. I pray for peace!

I am extremely torn on this subject, which is pretty rare. Firstly, I am all for the removal of religion from government, but then again I am really becoming uneasy about how so many people are becoming so freakishly obsessed with this sort of thing. I mean, people are so obsessed with making sure no religion is anywhere in public schools and etc. and its a bit unhealthy.

I have grown up saying the pledge that way, and although it is religious, I don't think it does any harm to anyone.

Its bullshit. People entered this country after the pledge of allegience was set. They don't have a right to get offended, thus should have no say in this subject. The same goes for not being able to say "Merry Christmas". This is a country whose founders were christian. If people are offended i think they should leave! I don't have a problem seeing the star of David in windows, or "happy Hanukah", so why do people have to be so difficult when it comes to christian values?

I am against taking it out.. But I know that the atheists will want to and so they can have their freedom of choice they will have to do it.. They can then be judged after they die and show their true colors..

Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

They'd be restoring the Pledge of Allegiance to the way it was originally written. "Under God" was a panicked reaction to the "Communist threat". Take it out; it imposes religious doctrine upon the citizens.

Excellent idea, it was never put there by the founders anyway and they knew why...

Oh all that righteousness, enough to make one want to puke.
All 'under god' means is 'under nothing'. And that makes about as much sense as a lot of the answers here, though I found some more enlightened.

The founders of this great nation understood that, but then they were mostly atheists, deists and masons. They scorned and laughed at the Christians.

Look at your history you pansies! ;-)

And while we are at it why not also get rid of this stupid 'In god we trust'. Don't speak to me about that, 'cause I don't.
Shakey's Pizza parlor used to have a slogan up 'In god we trust, everybody else pays cash'. At least that was funny.

Its totally atheistic! God should be be praised! We are not god so therefore why is it such a problem. Hes the most Attractive, Powerful and Loving Person! Why should we take those words out? To become more mundane?..I think the answer to that is simple!

They should be removed. This country is bassed on seperation between church and state. The words under god have no place in our pledge.
