Your vet needs to look at it again and give you something if it still hasn't cleared up. It could be fungal if not bacterial. I had a dog who had sensitive skin and picked up every skin infection you can think of. This is not a comfortable situation for your dog, either! Back to the vet...please. The stuff won't go away by itself.

If it smells, it is probably infected. Did your vet think it was a hot spot? This is an irritated section of skin that the dog has scratched raw and has become infected. Usually wet looking and smelly. Clean it well with antibacterial soap and rinse well. Apply an antibiotic ointment with hydrocortisone a couple of times a day until it is healed. This could also be some other kind of infection or mange. Your vet should be able to figure it out and give you the right medication. Otherwise, go to a different vet.

Get a new vet! Your dog has a stinky, crusty sore on the back of his neck and they just did one test for bacteria and sent you home with nothing? You need to take him to someone else who will actually try to find out what's wrong with him.

Hmmm, it's hard to say, but it could be an infection. I'd get a second opinion. People do it all the time :). Try keeping anti bacterial stuff such as neosporin on it. Bathe whole dog too. It really sounds like an infection. As I said I would see another vet just in case.

If your vet is clueless, maybe you need to ask for a second opinion from another vet..
Or.. take to some people who breed boxes for a living.. or a boxer rescue - petfinder.com
Seems the rescue gets more than it's share of dogs that have one or more conditions that need treatment.. I'm sure they'll be able to help you.. or set up a posting for anyone that may be able to help.
Good luck to you and your dog!

My dog gets sore, stinky spots on her and they are caused by allergies. She usually gets shots about every 45-60 days, but I was also told by the vet to give her Benadryl periodically. Her sores usually occur on the butt (base of her tail), legs, and belly (places where she scratches to relieve the itch). Have you noticed your dog scratching at his neck?

my dog had sort of the same problem, and it was that she had bacteria in her ears, and her breathe was incredibly stinky! so maybe ask your vet to check that!!!! that will probably take care of things, and if it doesn't then maybe hes just getting old.

Eww..try putting iodine on it, but I have no idea what it is. If you vet doesn't know . If it isn't bacterial, maybe its fungal?
