First you are mistaken if you think that the cat stays in your yard.
They will roam distances further than you think. If the cat is not spayed/neutered they will travel even further to mate.My guess is either your cat is a victim of a very evil person or it was a nuisance on their property. (getting into the trash, defecating, fighting with the property's owners cats, etc.) Unless some witness comes forward you will not find the culprit.
It is a good thing that the cat is healing well.

You probably won't be able to find the person who did it. Maybe you could concentrate on trying to prevent it from happening again. I had a neighbor once who would shoot cats with a BB gun to keep them from killing birds at his bird feeders. ( Not very nice - but I think a lot of people do this.) I also think some people shoot cats that they think are strays. Just to make sure this wasn't a problem with ours - I bought it a flea collar and a collar with a bell on it. That way no one can mistake it for a stray and you will solve the problem ( if there is one) of it killing birds. By the way - whoever did this is a heartless coward!

I hate to say this, BUT it is most likely a cosed issue. It could have been done by some ASZ who doesn't like cats, It could have been done by some Aszhole PUNK who doesn't like cats or it could even be a nasty ASZ neighbor you got. But unless someone saw it happen or someone starts talking you most likely won't find out. I am so sorry, I hope you cat gets better. By the way I have four cats and they are all IN DOOR cats. I will never allow them out and this is one reason of many why I won't.

You can try calling your local police department or animal control. They may be able to take a report, but I don't know that they will make a stake-out or anything to find the person. They need to know so that if a rash of these things are happening, they can track them and possibly step up the search.
Bring your cat inside and protect him for future occurances like this. It might take him time to adjust, but every cat *can* make that adjustment.

File a police report.Tell your neighbours to keep an eye out for you. Do you have a Neighbourhood Watch scheme? If no why not form one. That way you could all look out for each other. Hope your cat gets well soon.

I doubt the police will spend much time over a cat. It would be way down on their list of Priorites however you should report it just incase it is something common happening in your neighborhood
Good Luck

It would be hard to find out who shot him unless someone confesses or was seen doing it. He should be a inside cat from now on or worse will likely happen to him

If you figure out how, please let me know!
We live in a rural area and timberland is leased out to hunting clubs. We had 2 dogs killed by bow hunters and one made it home, but had to have a leg cut off. The police did not do anything. To many other things of greater importance to deal with. We went to the hunting clubs around us and they denied that any of their members would do that. 7 years ago I had a peacock shot by a drunk hunter. I hope you have better luck than we did.
I feel your pain.

So sorry about your cat. I would find out if your neighbors dislike cats and I would report this to animal control and even the police in your area. They may say they can't help you,but at least you reported it. Cruelity to animals is not cool. Hope you find who did it.

Are you sure it was in the yard the whole time?
Seems to me the vet didn't say anything. I'd drop the issue if I were you.
