Do you exercise? Often racing thoughts result because the body hasn't been utilized sufficiently. If you're tired from walking, jogging, weight training, stair mastering... or even more fun things like cycling, volleyball, basketball, rollerblading, etc., the less likely you'll have the strength to fritter about in thought.
However, if you're like me & exercise, but still have deep thoughts randomly, yet constant, the best thing to do is write them down immediately, or type them on your computer, then you won't forget in the morning what brillant ideas you created at night. Even if you're half asleep, get up or keep a pen & paper near your bed & jot down the jist of your thoughts. In the morning you can decide if these thoughts are truely memorable or not. Who knows you might right a book on the best sellers list?
If you're just bored all the time & continually think think think... then get involved in the community or other interests, cause life isn't always about thinking, it's more about doing & being.
Good luck, & hope things get better for you!

When you feel like this just try to remember that you don't have to remember all of these things. Doing so will only make your mind race even more and you'll feel even more ungrounded.

Are you being treated for bipolar disorder? Have you seen a doctor or therapist about this? If not, it would be a good idea to do so and get a diagnosis for what's going on. You may also need medication to help you with these racing thoughts.

Stress can often trigger these racing thoughts so try to be aware of what might be triggering these episodes. Once you get a feel for the things that are triggering them, then you can work on ways to help you de-escalate these feelings before they start to feel out of control.

I know that this can feel really horrible but there are ways to treat this. You may also want to ask your family doctor about having your thyroid checked, because sometimes thyroid disorders can make a person feel anxious. It's a simple blood test that the doctor can order.

Take care and good luck to you

I would like to see if I can help, but I am not sure if there is a specific issue that is bothering you or your thoughts in general are racing. Could it be that something has triggered this "episode" or is it something that has happened to you before?

Keeping a notepad next to your bed at night is a great tool for getting those bothersome thoughts out of your head that aren't allowing you to sleep and after you write them down that might help.

Are you able to sleep though?

How long have you experienced this type of forgetfullness and racing thoughts? Do you have any irritability or other behaviors that are outside of your own normal patterns?

Here is a website that may help you begin to find some answers, if any of the information is applicable to your situation. You may find that seeing someone who specializes in how you are feeling they may be able to help through talking or perhaps they can try a treatment that may alleviate your symptoms so that you can feel back to your old self. Of course I am not a doctor, so any thing you find in here that may or may not resemble how you are feeling should be followed up with a professional.

best wishes

Seriously, get a pad and pen and keep them next to your bed. I've come up with solutions to problems in the middle of the night sometimes when I've not been able to at any other time. I grab the old pad and pen and write it down. I can go for weeks or months without needing them, but they're there where I can get to them.

Keep a small pad and pen right next to your bed, where you can reach them without having to get up. Make a very brief note (a sentence or less) about each disturbing thought. Then you can "let go" of the thoughts and not worry about forgetting them.

I have that too. I see a therapist to talk about things. And a psychiatrist for meds. Right now I'm on trilepital. It's supposed to be for seizures, but that's what he prescribed for racing thoughts. It's a form of bi-polar. I have the worst short-term memory. A thought comes to me and then puff... it's gone. Recently, I've been typing in to-do- lists on my phone(Samsung) and leaving short messages for myself. I just have to remember to check it. Hope this helps. Mary
Take it from someone on meds-it sounds like you need to be taking something to calm your thoughts.

i know what you mean. You rack your brains out for hours trying to remember!! The best thing to do is if you have your phone on you type it in there. Or relate what you're thinking to , to something you see when you wake up. Like me, i always get up and look out my window. So the night before i somehow realte the subject to that and when i wake up and look it usually jogs my memory. Your brain works in a funny way and sometimes silly things jog your memory...it's crazy

try keeping a digital voice recorder by your bed. Then if you have a thought you can just roll over and record it.

Or if you want to sleep more soundley you can try 500-milligrams of tryptophan (an amino acid) before bed. It should help you get a more restful nights sleep.

Sounds like anxiety. Deep breaths. Take control of what you can, and let the rest go. Things have a way of working themselves out. You don't have to worry about every little thing.
