Estrogen, the 'desire' hormone is supposedly strongest during ovulation, but personally my level seems to peak just before I start my cycle and slowly subsides during. Also, the increased blood flow makes all the nerve endings more sensitive so the 'friction' of sex is stronger. I sex on periods helps to reduce cramping for me.
