My chocolate lab is 1 year old and started bleeding for the first time 10 days ago. She's been fairly normal for the majority of the time. Today however she's very sluggish. She's been sleeping a ton..she doesn't want to eat anything, she won't listen to me, and she's uninterested in everything. Her ears and nose are colder than normal. I'm wondering if she possibly has a fever or something.

I am getting her spayed in 2.5 weeks, so no comments on how to be a responsible pet owner please.

Good for you for getting her spayed. Normal body temperature for a dog is from 99.5 -102.5 degrees F. You could check her yourself at home...the thermometer goes in her rear.

This could have nothing to do with the heat - or it could. She could be feeling run down - when they bleed they are loosing blood, and therefore her iron levels could be a bit low...

She may also be feeling lazy because it is hot (depending on what part of the country you live in). If you are concerned, you could wait a day and see if she perks up - if not, it is probably a good idea to take her to the vet.

Feeling her nose and ears will not really tell you anything. If you want to take her temp. at home - I would get a digital thermometer (the faster the read the better) - get some help from another person - put some lubricating jelly on it and see where you are at. Temperature can mean infection...pyometra = infection of the uterus.

When in doubt, give a vet a call and ask them. Quite often dogs will be ornry during menstruation period. Keep a fresh supply of water to help lessen the chance of dehydration. First time does seem to have a larger effect.

I personally would take her to get a vet checkup to be sure everything is ok. Better safe than sorry for a loved companion pet.

This does not sound like normal behavior for a female in heat. It is unusual for a younger dog, but it is possible she has developed a uterine infection. You really need to have her checked by your vet just to be sure everything is normal. An infection can be life threatening.

a classic women first warmth lasts for around a month, no longer 21 dyas as appreciably theory. she will nonetheless be mated as much as and alongside with the thirtieth day, each woman is distinctive. whether it fairly is lasting longer than that, you would be able to desire to get her checked with a vet to ascertain she hasn't stepped forward pyometra, a womb an infection. sure, its tiring cleansing up after a woman yet you could attempt paying for b*tches britches for her. they arrive in all sizes and maximum canines tolerate them nicely sufficient. the 1st time you place them on, determine she has a yummy bone to take a seat down and bite directly to get her ideas off her new undies! No animal desires to have a warmth first to coach right into a good looking addition on your loved ones.

Dogs are normally in heat about 2 weeks. Just to be safe, keep an eye on her for an extra week. My positive comment is Thanks for spaying your pet. It is good for her health later in life. She has less of a chance of getting reproductive cancers and mammary gland tumors.
