I would feed two to three cups twice daily, and keep an eye on him. The charts on the bags of dog food aren't accurate (according to my vet) because they overestimate the amount of food a dog should have. Just use your best judgement. You should be able to feel his ribs, but they shouldn't be sticking out of his skin. If he looks kind of chubby to you, just cut back on his dog food, and if he looks a bit skinny, give him more. That way you can tailor the amount of food to what your dog needs. On another note, be sure that you are feeding him large breed puppy food and not regular puppy food. Regular puppy food has been linked to bone and joint problems when fed to large breed dogs such as German Shepherds. Basically, it causes them to grow too fast and damage their hips, elbows, etc.
Hope this helps!

Start your shepard off with 2 cups three times a day. When your dog hits about 8 or 9, boost him up to about 3-4 cups a day. My 8 month old rotti eats 4 cups three times a day. Check out your bad of dog food. They will give you the right serving amount based on weight.

Most recommendations ask for 1 cup of food per 10lbs. So if your dog weighs 60lbs, feed him 2 cups, 3 times a day. Check the back of your dog food bag. Most have a chart organized by weight that will suggest how much you should be feeding and how often. Good luck!

There should be a chart on the dog food bag telling you the amount to feed by weight of the dog.

I fed my dog as much as it could eat for ten minutes when he was that young. Dogs are scavengers they are suppose to eat all at once and that's it. Every dog is different for an amount of food, if you denie your dog nutrition it will be under nourished and their immune system will be down. The only thing is that if your dog eats to fast it my puke so just make sure he or she is not gulping their food.
