Seeing a shiny moving column or dots and squiggles which move is normal.
This is called an ENTOPTIC phenomenon. An example is when you look at a plain light-coloured background (like the sky) you see moving dots and squiggles. This is actually the blood cells coursing through the retinal arteries and veins. If you look carefully you can even make out the branching of the vasculature.
It might be due to floaters also, which are embryonic remnants in the vitreous (which is the gel like material in front of the retina).
Both these conditions are innocous and need no treatment.
Sometimes floaters can be significant, especially if you are a high myope, or have had any injury to the eye, or are diabetic or have an eye inflammation.

This worried me the first few times I got them, little squiggles moving down the eye. Usually followed by a head ache. It is the start of a migraine which in your case must be mild or you would know all about it by now. As soon as I get the first 'worms' I take any aspirin or paracetamol tablet and a drink of cold water. It usually goes in about three or four minutes if I follow this course of action, otherwise it may go on for an hour or so............

I am not sure what causes them , but i too get the lines that you mention. I was told that it could be that I may be diabetic. So if you have not been checked to see if you are diabetic maybe you should get an appointment to do so right away, and don't forget to mention this symptom to the doctor.
I wish you all the luck,

I have them. They are floaters. Sometimes they are more visible than others, like if it's bright out, or if I'm looking at a light colored surface. My eye doctor says almost everyone gets them and there is no cure for them, but they aren't really something to be concerned with. But they can be annoying.
P.S. But if you suddenly developed them or they became worse, you should get checked out by your eye doctor, just to be safe.

It is perfectly normal. These are caused by very minor damage to the eye due to earlier 'massaging' of the eye(s)

They are called floaters and they are a precursor to a migraine headache.
