Why do people put signs in the back wondow of there cars advertising the fact the have "kids on board" ?

People with "baby on board" signs and the like are universally idiots, in fact when either me or my mother see these words we automatically translate it to "idiot mother". It's as if they thought A) the emergency services would only check for small children in the event of a crash if they saw such a sign, and B) tail-gators and other aggressive drivers would behave differently if they read the sign. They must be very naive, and are almost always bad drivers too. And if they were sensible, they wouldn't have something blocking out part of their rear window, but then they probably don't use their rear view mirrors anyway.

They put the signs in the back to warn off other crazy drivers that tailgate thinking that this will make the other driver more careful and back off. In addition the signs can be useful in case of an accident so that emergency staff can then waste valuable time looking for a child that was never on board in the first place as mum's and dad's don't remove the signs when their child is not being carried in the car. Additionally people that don't have any children can put a sign in the back so that they can use the parent and child parking places at Tesco's and Asda's with impunity.

I think it is to make people stay further back from their bumper. Although I don't really want to hit them whether they have kids on board or not, to be honest!!! As for driving like maniacs, that is just stupid.

I had a guy in an AA van right up my *** on the motorway the other day (I was doing 70 and the traffic was pretty bad). He undertook me and forced the person in the middle lane to pull over, then darted back out in front of me and nearly forced me off the road. He had a small child in the front next to him. Just madness!!!!!!

I really do not know why these people have to advertise this fact either, it so infuriates me, if they were driving how they should be, you know following the highway code and doing everything right then having kids or anyone else in the back of the car for that matter wouldn't have to be on permanent display for all the world and his wife to see would it, pity they don't notice they have kids on a permanent basis instead of just when their driving.

These signs drive me mad! It's not going to stop anything ploughing into the car in the event of an accident!

And what about the driver? So only the kids "on board" are important and that's why people should not tailgate?

Maybe I should have a sign in my car saying "Pull back, Adult on board"

The reason for these signs (originally) was to inform people that kids were/are in the car in case of an accident.

Nowadays, I think people are boasting that they are fertile.

If you are travelling without kids, the sign should be removed.

I hate them, and even though I have a very young child, I will NOT have one in my car.

To let people know that you are likely to drive like an idiot as you are trying to concentrate, stop your kids from fighting & trying to pass around the McDonalds meals/drinks while you drive.

AND

You are likely to have faces pulled at you from the back window.

AND

If the driver is annoying you, they would prefer it if you rammed them from the front as there are kids in the back.
