I think people think that french and german are on the top of the list, but reallly, they aren't. it is just that those languages are easier to learn than, for example, chinese, which is number one on the list. but the top ten can be found on this site... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers
