This is a big pet peeve of mine. Does anyone else relate with me? I normally just smile and or graciously thank them but inside I am very annoyed.
Here is an example: I asked a guy that I worked with if he knew a good place to purchase health suppliments at cheap prices. He recommended a place that may have it and I thanked him. He then continued to explain to me that I could call them and see if they carried and IF they carried I could ask how much it was. I just smiled at him.
I know this is petty but it is so annoying to me. Any ways to explain to people that their "advice" is not necessary without coming across as rude or arrogant? Sometimes I think people are so used to dealing with idiots that they treat everyone that way.

Well, it's a rather lengthy explanation, but you did ask.....ha,ha,ha.

There's not much you can do. I work with a guy who is like that - constantly tells me how to do things, tells me how to spell things and where the punctuation goes, etc. When I remind him that I am a Language Arts major and have a college education, it just goes in one ear and out the other. He forgets the next time around. I know he isn't intentionally trying to be annoying, in fact in "real life" he is a sweetie pie, but since there is nothing I can do about it short of having my head explode, I just go with the flow. So, my advice is to just make the best of it. Grit your teeth or whatever, but never be unkind.

That is sticky, but it is unfair to ask and then dictate the directions. Kinda like asking God for help and then giving directions on how to respond.

When people tend to be verbose as I am, I always ask the question, if I sense it could be lengthy, jokingly, for the "short version". Peace.

if you know who these people are, avoid asking them any questions that arent yes/no ones, also be "on your way" to somelpace and leave, or instead of thinking of how you are annoyed, tell yourself that maybe they are never listened to or werent as a child, in school, or in their marriage, and think of it as a time youre letting them have to find freedom in having someone just listen...even about the pharmacy...you never know where someone is coming from.

Just cut them off, and tell them that the info already given is sufficient.

Tell them you have a yes or no question, and you want a short answer before you ask.
