I'm a 13-year-old girl and I cry in bed before I fall asleep. I don't cry myself TO sleep; I just cry until I'm too tired and then I stop crying and go to sleep, and I ENJOY it! I haven't told anyone this. Is that weird?

There's nothing weird about it. Crying can be a good and healthy way to release tension and feelings that seem overwhelming.

The thing that concerns me though is why you feel you need to cry so often. Is there trouble at home or school? Are there fears that you have that are hard for you to talk about? Like I said, there's nothing wrong with crying, but you also need to talk to someone that you trust about what's upsetting you or concerning you. This can be a family member, good friend or a teacher.

You also may want to ask your parents to schedule a check up with your family doctor to make sure that you're doing okay health wise. Minor things like vitamin deficiencies can make you feel run down and weepy.

You're entering your teen years too so this can cause a whole lot of hormonal changes and these changes can make you feel depressed, moody or emotional at times. It's not fun at all, but it does get easier as time goes on.

If you're not already doing so, keep a journal and write about how you're feeling. Sometimes writing things down can be a good release and also may help you to problem solve any issues in life that are bothering you.

Take care and be good to yourself, you deserve it.

Not ununsual. Your body releases hormones when you cry that help you feel better.
Tears contain ACTH, a stress hormone, and leucine-enkephalin, an endorphin that modulates pain. Crying has the effect of balancing the stress hormones in the body. Research has shown an association between tears and attitudes about crying with various stress-related illnesses and even longevity. People suffering from ulcers and colitis, two conditions aggravated by stress, were found less likely to have positive attitudes about crying and tears.

From what it sounds like, the ACTH and leucine-enkephalin are helping you relax so you can fall asleep.

Are you too anxious to sleep if you do not cry. Perhaps the crying is helping you deal with a problem. I am not sure that it is weird. I think it is helping you cope with something. I would see if you can talk to a trusted adult about this. If that is one of your parents that is good. If you cannot trust them an older sibling or an aunt or grandparent. I think you need help with dealing with whatever is causing this. If you have no family member you can trust please tell your school counsellor and see if they can help you get help. I think you must be doing this for some reason and someone needs to get you help for this. Try to be open to figuring out what it is. It may be hard since you are young, but if someone is hurting you or you are hurting inside or having trouble sleeping please tell the trusted person in your life whatever it is and just talk it out with them and they can help you. Just be open with yourself and the adult. Please make sure to tell someone you trust if anyone another kid or an adult is hurting you or if something in your life or a feeling in your mind is bothering you. It is not your fault and people can help you.

Hmm, that is interesting. Ask your parents if they did the cry-it-out method with you when you were a baby to teach you to sleep. Maybe the crying before bed thing comes from that?

For a lot of people, a good cry can release stress and negative feelings, leaving you relieved and more relaxed afterwards. Crying may be your body's way of "letting go" of things after a long day.

Be careful that you don't cry for negative reasons because only positive thinking brings health, success, wealth and happiness in life. You create your future by what you think about all day. Hopefully, you are crying because you are happy. That will improve your life if you visualize good things happening around you....)(

Do you have things that are bugging you? I find it strange but if you don't have anything that is on your mind that makes you cry then I guess it's fine. Talk to one of your parents about it because they need to know things like these.

Yes, I think it's weird:) but if you think you like it then it's your decision. Only you can choose what to do for yourself. For me if I cry, I get a headache :).
