6 years ago I was giving a mixture of Buspar and Paxil. I had social anxiety and depression. I didn't get very bad side effects, but the one thing I did notice is that I felt numb all the time. Couldn't get happy or sad. Nothing. Maybe thats a good thing though.

Buspar is different than benzodiazepines like ativan or xanax or valium. It is much more mild. Ask your doctor about trying a very small dose to start out. Buspar is not a spectaular drug with great side effects. It is pretty mild. Also you can ask your doctor about taking an antidepressant for anxiety or working on some techniques in therapy. If you are scared about medications why not learn biofeedback and meditation and learn how to control you anxiety yourself. It takes tons of dicipline and it sounds like your anxiety is very bad, but if you are horrified of medication then it will not do you much good. How about reading about buspar also. Read the info that came with your medication if you still have it. Also look on this site under inform yourself about medications under buspar.

Or call your local poison control/drug info site and ask the specific concerns you have about buspar.

Hope that helps. You can use methods other than meds for anxiety but they take extreme dicipline and dedication. Ask your doctor for a referal to therapy and also ask your doctor about a maintence medication rather than a prn if you are scared.

Keep an open line of communication with your doctor and tell your doctor if you are scared of medication. Work out something you are willing to take with your doctor or something you will at least try to take.
