By delete, what do you mean? When you open task manager, it gives you the option of ending the process, but this doesn't delete the file.

As for how to identify, just do a Google search for the abbreviations that appear in Task Manager. That's how I determined which were which.

If you want to limit which programs open automatically when you boot up your computer, Go to Start, then Run, then type in msconfig, then click Startup. There you can uncheck any programs that you don't want to start automatically, and this will limit what shows up in Task Manager.

Basically, Task Manager is a list of any open programs and processes on your computer. Programs can be "open" without appearing onscreen, by the way. That is, Java could be open even though you long ago closed out of the Web page that required Java. Some processes/programs don't close until you close them by clicking "End Process."

yeah, although you aren't deleting files, but the processes you're running, you may have to delete the files manually anyhow. as long as you don't delete system programs you'll fine, usually with xp if you delete something important your computer crashes and reboots like it was before.

and usually the system/windowns/etc files are labeled under "user name" under the processes tab

dont close nythin from there.
but if u hav a stcked app, then find the app which has - 'not responding' in front of thet o the process (on the processes tab) that's takin the most of CPU(it must b abt 100% o so) and end task

but also, if u kno dat there's a program dat u wonna quit n that doesnt close it self, try the process tab to find that n close it.

you may want to leave that alone. but do this first, if you have windows 2000 press control, alt & delete all togather. your registery window will come up with lists of process you have made & how many. if files shows & its under system or local, dont touch it, but if its under owner then its possibly safe to delete it. always consult your manual before to be sure. you can also get rid of unwanted files by going to tools on your windows address bar beside favorites. click on that & go to internet options & click on it. in the middle you will see delete cookies, delete files & delete history, click each seperatly till operation is finished. this is one of the best ways to get rid of unwanted files & keep your comp running smoothly & quicker. i have other ways to do cleanups , but try this first. let me know if it works @ rje 46805@yahoo.com

You need to manually search for each on the internet. ProcessName.exe is good enough, and should get you the info you need.

Be sure not to shut your firewall p[rocess.

Explorer process is Explorer.exe. ONe is the taskbar and start menu, and if you open explorer window, to brtowse yoru computer, another Explorer.exe will be visible.

Good luck, and be careful.
