How closely should your brother stand behind you? at home? in public?

Is it wrong of me to feel disgusted and angry at my girlfriend's brother when he stands too closely to her?

Like when we go to the mall he stands six inches or closer. It is too close for comfort and my girlfriend doesn't even notice. He stands as closely to her as a boyfriend would . . . I've spoken to her about it but she sees nothing wrong with it. . . . I don't know whether I'm over reacting or there's actually something wrong there. Am I overreacting?

Generally weird. Ask her about it. Talk to her about it.

Maybe he feels very protective of her. Is he older or younger? She seems to be used to this, and it doesn't bother her. Perhaps he grew up feeling he was her "protector", and still feels that it's his place to watch over her? This is natural for big brothers, and even sometimes younger brothers. I wouldn't feel jealous though, because trying to bring that out in the open will make things awkward between all of you. He will eventually back off, once he gets to know you better and he's sure his sister is in no danger of being hurt.

Sounds like you are being pretty petty to me. The only real issue you should have is why he's going out with you 2 enough for you to really have an issue with it. If he's an older brother, he might be trying to be protective over her. If he's younger, then it might be because he's uncomfortable and sticking by his big sis. I recommend that you try to spend more time together without the brother.

It's probably just how her family interacts and how they grew up. You know, in most countries besides America, people who really care for each other stand pretty close, especially while conversing, which sometimes makes for some cultural miscommunication.

It's probably just what she's used to and I would try to not put much thought into it. You're probably just a little subconciously annoyed by it by your cultural values and how it's another male near your girl.

He is being protective - probably because you give out signals. He is, I would think, protecting her from you as you are showing all the signs of being jealous. She is allowing him into her space and feels comfortable with the situation. You are overreacting and should curb your jealousy tendencies...........

Maybe they are just one of those families, nothing nasty going on, they are just huggers for lack of a better term.
If you have talked to her about it, then just get over it. My brother and I lock arms and walk hand in hand. We have since he was a baby and now we are in our 40's! Heck I get him one one side and his wife on the other sometimes. Nothing creepy going on here! Just affection.

This is likely a "Protection issue"
If my little sister were still alive I would be right by her side.

I wouldn't worry, unless he starts rubbing himself up against her.
