If this is a concern, speak to a mental health professional. However, judging by your answer, I don't think you are bipolar. Remember, I do not know you, I have never met you, and I, by no means, have enough information to diagnose you. I just wanted to give you some insight. Bipolar is characterized by manic and depressive phases. The cycles can last several days or several weeks (rarely cycling within the same day). Its more severe than just mood swings or anger. People with mania have a decreased need for sleep. Its like they are running on an infinite battery. They'll start projects they never finish. They may be arrogant and mean. They may be angry and impulsive (like drinking or going on shopping sprees). Some people become hypersexual. They may talk quickly or just seem very hyperactive. So, when they cycle into the depressive phase, you can understand why its such a crash. People with Bipolar have Major Depressive Episodes. This may include feeling suicidal, being unable to get out of bed, not eating or sleeping, not going to work or school, just seeming run down, or not talking to others.
Since you are not depressed and the only symptom of mania you have is anger, I think the likelihood of you having Bipolar is low. Again, speak to a mental health professional.
Genetically, you are more likely to be Bipolar since your mom is. However, your anger could be behavioral, not chemical. Growing up with a Bipolar mother, I imagine that you were exposed to some amount of anger. Did your mom cope with problems in an angry manner? It is possible you learned this through observation- that the best way to cope is to lash out. If this is the case, therapy and anger management may help.

Getting angry easily doesn't mean that you're bipolar. Bipolar disorder is allso known as manic depression. It's an illness that can cause extreme shifts in thoughts, energy, mood, and behavior; a person's mood may swing between "highs" (mania) and "lows" (depression); in between mood swings, a person may have few or no symptoms.
I've heard that it can run in families but I'm not sure if this is true.
If you can, get your mom to make an appointment for you with your family doctor so that he or she can refer you to a couselor or therapist. Then you'll be able to get a proper diagnosis.
But anger doesn't necessarily mean you have a mental illness. Anger is a normal emotion but if you feel that it's ruining your quality of life then you need to talk to someone about why you're so angry and work on ways to manage your anger in a healthy way.

You could be given the family history and given you have some anger problems. The best thing would be is to go to a psychiatrist and get an evaluation. The doctor could do things for you to make you feel better. It is a good thing to look into so you can lead a more comfortable life. It is not your fault if you are and you are still the same person. It just gives you tools to lead a more effective more comfortable life.

Depending on your age. Bipolar in a young age generally shows up at a later age, like late teens. Before then, it is usually ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder). But Bipoar also involves down-spells, depression, so I don't know if you have that or not. Sorry to say, with your family history, it's all almost guaranteed you will get it. I'm Bipolar, and in the beginning it's rough until they find your right medication. But once they get there, it's smooth sailing...Good luck!

I agree with the 2nd and 4th answers. You really need to be checked by someone trained to make the diagnosis. Bipolar disorder is difficult to diagnose even by experienced psychiatric experts. In the mean time you may check out my site "Our Bipolar World" at the link shown below. I live with bipolar disorder and created the site as a means to help others who live with this disorder. You are at greater risk to develop bipolar disorder or other mental conditions since you have a family history of it. Increased risk does not mean you will, but your chances are increased. It does tend to run in families, indicating a genetic connection. Many other factors could cause a mental health condition as well. Environment, physical injury to the brain, physical abnormalities in the brain, and illness such as a tumor, or blood clots in the brain or brain infections can all lead to mental health issues. Alcohol and/or drug abuse can induce a mental condition of aggravate one that already exists.
Sincerely,
Terry

Doesn't sound like bipolar actually. Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that manifests itself in the form of varying moods where patients experiences feelings of mania and feelings of depression as well as mixed states. Seems to me you have more of a temper problem than bipolar disorder. You should really be seeking the advise of a mental health professional though. It can be treated.

There are symptoms of Bi-Polar:
Rapid Speech
Free Spending (if you can afford or not)
Fleeting and multiple thoughts
Feeling as you're invincible (super-man/woman)
Illusions of grandeur, that you're a genius
Overly ambitious
Then you go the other way and feel down...
Those are just a few symptoms... Self diagnosis is not recommended- Try it on a web site http://www.bipolar.com and other sites. see the characteristics and symptoms and go to a psychiatrist for an evaluation.

i have been bi polar for many years and it does take some time to pin point if you do indeed have it.. bi polar any more is diagnosed by UN qualified persons like some comm en head ache.. bi polar is a very serious condition you may need to look at your anger issues and day to day stresses even bi polars have to deal with ever day problems that have nothing to do with our illness.

I hate everyone on this website. No, you're NOT bi-polar. Being bi-polar involves much more than just crying a little bit.
