why do basic standards of historical, literary, scientific, and philosophical protocol and methodology used in every academic subject apparently NOT apply to anything having to do with Christianity? Is "faith" just a cop-out to avoid the truth?

I remember a couple years back when the ossuary of "James the Brother of Jesus" was "discovered" and boy were the Christians thrilled to proclaim it real after preliminary tests... too bad that a thing called scientific method (rechecking "facts") later proved it to be a fraud. Isn't "faith" (when used in context of religion) just another way of saying "lack of critical thinking skills"? Why aren't Christians (and religions in general) more curious to see if their beliefs can survive the same objectivity and standards of every other non-religious belief? No respectable academic would form a theory without testing it against all known facts, and then reexamining all evidence. Does lack of skepticism just = stupidity or is there another answer?

I am so sad that it seems no Christians have answered my question. Bless all of you (presumed) agnostics and atheists who answered what I all ready suspected...

BTW, I am not talking about proving that the Bible is true by using a microscope. I am talking about things like checking a literary work for plagiarism... stuff like: if Babylonian or Egyptian mythologies are the same (or vastly similar) to parts of Biblical mythology and we know that Babylonian and Egyptian versions pre-date the Bible then, and that the Israelites were in those regions being influenced by those cultures before the writing of the Torrah... then? Please, will a Christian have the huevos to answer? Please?!

Again! I am not just talking about science. Biblical "scholars" fail in ALL academic diciplines (not just SCIENCE -- I was using the james ossuary as an example, but there is a lack of critical thinking on all subjects), including basic accepted methods of LITERARY and HISTORICAL analysis. And actually, since neither I, nor any scientist or real academic I know of, says that any scientific or academic theory is INFALLIBLE we do not have the same problem that you irrational Christians do. We love to be proved wrong! Why? Because we care about the ACTUAL TRUTH.

Members of any religious sect are not interested in trying to prove the validity of their beliefs, they are BELIEFS. If some scientific data comes to light that seems to prove an item of belief they will welcome it. But they won't go out to find proof because failure would seem to weaken the tenets in which they believe.
They do not accept any other belief so the writings of that belief cannot give credence to their own belief because this would imply that there is truth in the other belief.
Most 'believers' have closed minds when the subject is their belief.
Sorry about the constant repetition of the B word.

The bible isn't just a booklet, it is a booklet of books and stands for elementary guidelines earlier than leaving earth. Along with that it's one 3rd historical past, one 3rd regulartory, and the opposite 3rd prophesy. Other texts and manuscripts do not and are not able to percentage this distinctive and harmonic truth. I'm definite persons of the beyond translations have blue-pencilied. These are persons that do not desire you to understand the uncooked fact approximately lifestyles, that despite that you're going to revel in in the event you reside uncovered and deal head on along with your long run via assimilation of yours and others beyond. The thing more distinctive approximately the bible is that regardless of how commonly you learn a passage it's going to imply anything new to you and your predicament at that designated time. It is a dwelling phrase of God that may and will have to be learn and heard perpetually! Amen

Religion is based on faith. And having faith is not a cop-out. And just because something can't be examined under a microscope - doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. How do you explain the creation of the universe? The Big Bang theory is a weak attempt to do so. Man has always known that their was a higher being and have prayed to God in thanksgiving and time of need. I wonder what you would do if you needed a "spiritual lift."

How do I cross reference the scripture with a box? I could have said the same thing about your group when science called the shroud of Turin a fraud. Now science has back peddled on that to saying there is no longer any definitive proof it isn't 2000 years old.It must be nice to have it both ways the way you seem to...

faith means believing in something without proof. It's in the dictionary ya know, and it's not just a religeous term. Christians have faith. Christians don't need proof. In fact, to even desire proof could indicate a lack of faith now couldn't it?

But you musta already know what faith is so you must just be in the mood to insult Christians. I'm sorry you feel that way. I wish you luck in life.

By the way just to make sure you know. Even if you don't believe in God, He still loves you and hopes you'll come to Him. Its never too late, friend.

They'll say "You can't comprehend God and science can't explain him." Or just tell you to have faith accompanied by a Bible quote.
