When one dies, one is met by God and has to answer for their actions.
An atheist will be shown the truth just like everyone else, but it will be to late then - so no, there will be no atheists in hell, you are right, by then they will be believers.
However, I do not think that ALL atheists will go to hell. I know some who are more Christ-like and do more good than many Christians.

I thought hmm, yea, the atheists would probably all become knowers (not believers, since they'd actually know!) if there actually does turn out to be a hell, so no, there won't be any atheists in hell, either way, whether there is one or not.
But there also won't be any theists in hell (or heaven) if there is one, just people who actually know, instead of people who just live according to beliefs. That said, there is no heaven or hell.

Well, if people either go to heaven or hell, and atheists abvioulsy aren't going to heaven, then what would that mean??? Yes, I guess they're going to Hell. It's a shame, because God loves them too, and want's them in Heaven with everybody else.
Oh .. it's a joke. I get it now.

If it weren't for God, there wouldn't be any athiests to not believe in him. What would be the purpose of atheists if there were no God. What would they complain about?

Athiests will cease to exist following their demise, by my own estimation. The followers of god and goddesses shall ascend to their respective heavens and hells, whereas the meek (us agnostics. Huzzah!) are lost forever... FOREVER!!!!!!!!!
