Children love control. By giving her an option of two times, she gets to be in control of what time she gets to go to bed. She might struggle with the times and want to argue with you, but firmly tell her that the times you have chosen to give her are not negotiable, however, whichever one of the two times you picked are. For example, you can say, "Mary, you can choose whether to go to bed at 8:30 or 9:00. Which one do you prefer?" By allowing her to choose, she feels she is in control. If she choses 9:00 and the time comes and she still doesn't want to go to bed, remind her that that is the time she chose. Just make sure that she stops her activities and starts preparing for bed at least a half hour before (i.e., brushing teeth, shower, changing into pajamas, etc.). Personally, I feel 9:00 is a bit late for a 7 year old. Eight or 8:30 would be best. The older the child is, the more lenient you can be with bed time.

It depends on if there is something she needs to get up for the next morning. During school my 8 years bedtime is 9:00 pm. While on summer break she usually is allowed to stay up until 10:00 Sunday - Thursday. Friday night she sometimes stays up until 11:00, if we are not doing anything early Saturday morning. Saturday night bedtime is 9:30. A good rule of thumb is to allow 10 hours of sleep per night.

8 pm. Does she stay with you regularly? If during the week and she has school the next day...by 8pm. If weekend, then a little later...by 10pm at the latest. Sunday night's by 8pm again since school's the next day. Try having her do a quiet activity in bed 30 minutes before bedtime like reading. Keep the same schedule with her and it'll eventually stick. Children that age need more sleep. If a show's on later at night, tape it and tell her she can watch it the next day earlier.

The midnight thing she's saying is ridiculous. If she's just staying with you for a day or two you could let her live it up and stay up until 10:00 or 10:30 and let her view her visit with you as a fun time and a treat.
If she's with you for several days - 9:00 tops.
Whichever yo chose, just tell her, "I don't know what time you usually go to bed, but when you're here this is the time you go."

Well if you want to be 'the cool aunt' let her stay up till 930, but other wise 830 is plenty late for a 7 year old. If she's up any later than that, it should be low key activities with the both of you, widing down to bed time, so she's not a riled up before bed

I have 3 girls and a boy . They all went to bed about 8 in the winter and 845-900 in the summer . They all get great grades,
Trash is on T.V after 8 anyway
Read to them the last hour instead of letting them watch T.V they will fall asleep

9:00 at latest! The younger the earlier they have to go to bed. Have her go to sleep at 8:30 and read her a story. If shes not out by 9:00 tell her to play a game called eyelids. First one too open their eyes loses.

Depends--If there is no school and she doesn't have to be up in the morning, no reason for her to go to bed before you do unless you need some time to uwind. Childen that age should get between 9 and 10 hours of sleep most nights.

It's the summer and she could stay up late but Midnight NO WAY!!Soon it will be time to be back in school and 8pm-8:30 should be the latest then.Your not her parent but your the closest thing to a parent she has.Explain that she's a kid and that kids need to rest.Show her who is boss before she thinks it's ok to stay out that late.My kids are 13,10 and 3 and if they were up at midnight they better be sleep walking!!
