In the country they might treat you like your special, but in the cities you'll get a lot of flack about American Imerialism and political backlash - George W is not popular, and most believe Americas involvement in any war where there is oil involved (ie, we don't see the US jumping in to help out in Africa, or Asia) as super dodgy!

I get along with Australians and have lots of friends there.
It is going to depend on how you act and fit in.

In general, Australians have the same facination with Americans

as they have with us.

It is all in the accent.

Use it to your advantage and you will do well.
