Muhammad has 11 wives because they were supporters to Muhammad (PBUH) not for sex. Muhammad (PBUH). If you look in your bible Exodus 21:10 then you could actually see that in Christianity as well as Judaism you can marry INFINITE amout of wives. This is not hypocricy and Muhammad (PBUH) is the greatest messenger ever sent by God and if you don't believe in him don't but still respect him. Here is a website if you want to know more about Islam and polygamy.
"In the Bible where a man can marry an infinite amount of women without any limits to how many he can marry, see Exodus 21:10 in the Bible. Please note that King David in the Bible had six wives and numerous concubines according to 2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3. King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines according to1 Kings 11:3. Also, Solomon's son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines according to 2 Chronicles 11:21."

dont make comments like that, that does not suits toi any one that billion sof people are respect a person cant be wrong, have you ever seen a single muslim using these kind of words are regarding any religion or Prophet, we honor everyone equally ...
*********************
Now come to your answer,
Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH had 11 wives , and we muslims are allowed maximum 4 wives right...
but my dear everyone has sligh misconception...
ISLAM ALLOWS ONLY 4
BUT AT A TIME 4 ..
but at a time.. this is i always say read and read carefully, simply when u heard things like that abt islam or any religion, atleast research regarding this before you believe , Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH married 1st time when he was 25, and after that all marriges he did, none of them was above 4 at a time.
Why he did? He set a example for his followers.. few of his marriges was due to political issues, he eliminate rivalry and fight by marrying even in opposite tribes, few he did in his close fellows and relative to be assosiate with them, also other social and different causes, and also he set an example to all muslims by marrying in differnt cast and tribes that there is no cast system, that we are superior to thatfamily or we are rich and cant marry poors etc ...
Weddings of Prophet is a seprate issue, i will request you and everyone to do a research on them, i think on internet there is enough data, i told you wat the knowledge i have ... May God help you

Because he died before he got sick of his 11th wife?
***
Honestly... who cares? What's with the Islam bashing?
Religious extremists of all shapes and sizes are dogmatic, unreasonable and often violent. The Muslim world just happens to be particularly unstable in this part of its history and poverty and strife in many areas are causing fewer people to have educations outside of purely religious ones. Add all that to a clash of cultures and interests and Viola! There are a lot of zealots who don't like us in the West. That doesn't mean you have to attack the entire religion. Anyone can go into the holy books of a religion and find passages endorsing all sorts of things that we don't find acceptable today. There are more Muslims who practice their religion without violence or hate than there are who do. Grow up.

He had one proper wife. The rest were common-law wives and so did not count in the eyes of god/allah, whoever

Again I'll say, Islam is not much for morality. I sure don't want to follow a fallible God.
