What dogs make the best pets?and why?

It all depends on what you want in a pet. Do you want a house dog, an outside dog, a herding dog. I myself have three dogs. a chocolate lab, an australian shepherd and a shar-pei. My chocolate lab is very athletic. She must always fetch and at times trys to herd my nieces and nephews. She loves the outdoors. My australian shep is much the same. My shar pei however loves the indoors. She is very shy. It has much to do with what your preference is. I also love St. Bernards. I'm a big dog person. Some people would prefer smaller dogs. It's all in preference and the responsibility you can afford to take on. Don't buy a big dog if you don't have the money to buy alot of food.

It all depends on what your looking for. If you want an outdoor dog that isn't that big and can be playful and cuddly as well... i would definitely recommend a shiba inu. They aren't very common like retrievers or anything but they make great pets. i know from personal experience.

It depends on various things (dog energy level compared to yours, amount of time you have to walk the dog, health problems associated with the breed, etc.)

I'd say go on http://www.akc.com and look at what type of dogs catch your eye. Then even consider mixed breeds.

I chose a mixed poodle breed (Schnoodle) because they don't shed and they are friendly and quick learners. Potty training wasn't bad at all with him.

i'd have to say, dauschund hound. i have three dogs and the dauschunds are the best littledogs....
