there's no software to fix this problem

the ipod mini, and many other ipods, use lithium batteries. say you charge the battery when it's 50% full on a normal basis. The battery will think that it only needs to charge 50% for the battery to be fully charged. So then instead of having a 14 hour battery, you have a 7 hour battery. Then you charge it when 50% if full on a normal basis- you have a 3.5hour battery life. If you have iPod insurance, apple will replace it for free- if you don't, you can get it replaced for $30

You should only charge your ipod when the battery is dead, or very low. If the battery has more than 10% battery left, don't charge it.

i think so. visit the link below. I searced "battery" in the downloads part of the support section on the apple website and I got a couple hits that I think might work.
