I posted this question in the biology section and cant believe how many answers i got from ppl saying god did it,. so i figure that asking here i might get some better answers. i trust evolution, but it only explains how life changes and how we got to what we are today, but it does not explain how life began. How did something living come from things that were non-living?

This is really old brainymokey but as ur response gives me that chance i will ask, if nothing comes into existence by itself, who created god?

Google for 'abiogenesis' and 'panspermia'.

Within the past few decades, astronomers have discovered unimaginally huge clouds of organic chemicals (the 'building blocks of life') in space, in the vicinity of 'stellar nurseries'. This reinforces the idea that life is ubiquitous... not a unique condition associated exclusively with our little planet. In fact, it may be that "when and how did life arise on earth?" is not even be the right question. There is a very real possibility that primitive 'life' was raining down upon the earth over the entire time that it was forming, and for hundreds of millions of years afterward. The REAL question might be "When did conditions on earth settle down enough that life was able to take hold?"

You believe in evolution obviously so I don't know what you will think of this. The question “Do you believe in evolution or in creation? Nothing comes into existence by itself. “Every house is constructed by someone, but he that constructed all things is God.”—Heb. 3:4.

Jehovah God the Source. Life has always existed, because Jehovah God is the living God, the Fountain of life, and he has no beginning or end of existence. (Jer 10:10; Da 6:20, 26; Joh 6:57; 2Co 3:3; 6:16; 1Th 1:9; 1Ti 1:17; Ps 36:9; Jer 17:13) The first of his creations was given life, namely, his only-begotten Son, the Word. (Joh 1:1-3; Col 1:15) Through this Son, other living angelic sons of God were created. (Job 38:4-7; Col 1:16, 17) Later, the physical universe was brought into existence (Ge 1:1, 2), and on the third of earth’s creative “days” the first forms of physical life: grass, vegetation, and fruit trees. On the fifth day, living earthly souls, sea animals, and winged flying creatures were created, and on the sixth day, land animals and, finally, man.—Ge 1:11-13, 20-23, 24-31; Ac 17:25

Consequently, life on earth did not have to wait for some chance combination of chemicals to occur under certain exact conditions. Such a thing has never yet been observed and, in fact, is impossible. Life on earth came to be as the result of a direct command of Jehovah God the Source of life and by the direct action of his Son in carrying out that command. Only life begets life. The Bible account tells us in each instance that the thing created brought forth offspring in its likeness, or, “according to its kind.” (Ge 1:12, 21, 25; 5:3) Scientists have found that there is indeed discontinuity between the different ‘kinds,’ and, except for the question of origin, this has been the chief obstacle to the theory of evolution.

This has been attempted in a lab. Reproducing the atmosphere that science said covered the planet in a primordial age and introducing an electric charge to a pool of water that is sciences best guess as to the chemical content of water and minerals that have all the ingredients for life. As the power was applied a chain of amino acids formed a kind of goo. Problem is that it ONLY happened when the power was directly in contact with the water. As soon as it was removed the goo dispersed.. This was in a LAB with intelligent men trying to do it.. What are the chances that it just happened? And if it did just happen what are the chances it could have survived and evolved? Throw a deck of cards in the air on a windy day and see if you can get them to all stack up in their individual suits in order ace to king.. I think the odds are better for that than life just springing forth uncreated by intelligent design..

Many people cling to the belief that God began everythng and they want to scientific evidence or other explanation clouding that belief. Let them believe that if they want to. I believe in EVOLUTION and the fact that everything (including us) came from outer space, i.e., the DNA traveled within the meteors and other debris that crashed into the earth billions of years ago. Of course, all life came from that and started in the oceans where we and everything else crawled out of (although obviously not in our present form). The Universe has no beginning and no end and is still expanding from a series of big bangs and other violent episodes that are still occuring out there in the space and time continuum. Again, if some want to believe there is some super human being in white flowing robes that sits around creating things (and destroying them) then let them believe their fantasy, even when they quote the Bible which of course, was written by mankind to keep people in line (to make them behave, etc.) There is no omnipotent being (God) no devil, no heaven or hell. This is but fantasy sort of like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. Our planet is VERY complex and it takes YEARS of scientific study to even understand a smidgeon of what there is to be learned and what has already been learned of our planet's creation. Again, no God out there. We are on our own, basically.

None of the above are correct but I tell you that this is the truth. You need to get you a Holy Bible. I suggest that you get the KJV and the NIV Bible. Start in the book of Genesis.

God took some of the dust from the earth and out of it he made man; and God breathed into him the breath of life, and man (Adam) become alive and stood up on the earth. Then God said that it is not good that man live alone, and will make someone to be with Adem to help him. So when Adam was asleep God took a rib from Adam's side, and Adam called her Eve. And Atam and Eve loved one another living in the garden

No one knows for sure. We have no evidence for creation, we have little for evolution beginning life, we have TONS for primates evolving into humans.

I can easily accept that amino acids formed into protiens, and that protiens formed with carbon and sugars...maybe they even reached a point where this concoction was able to grow and reproduce, like fire or crystals.

Its tough for me to believe, or understand how we can reach a point where eyes can handle billions of photo-receptors to absorb and translate light into images in our brain...how within 5 weeks of conception a fetus can have a beating heart, and how our bodies can seek out and fight infections.

On the flip side though, I'm confused as to how a creator could be so perfect as to design life in all its complexity, but mess up on things. How can a creator create sight yet not be able to avoid nearsightedness? How can a creator create the brain but not avoid MS? How can a creator skin but not avoid ichthiosis?

So, I see both sides to the issue, but the bottom line is no one knows.

Chance? Is that the best scientists have to offer? Is that the best argument an atheist will offer?

If that were the case, then why do so many atheists laugh at the idea of a "watch forming from its disassembled parts" all by themselves? If given the "right conditions", could the watch be put together by itself?

Ultimately, we may never know. I do think that life was brought here from one or more other planets though, by highly advanced space travelers (the gods,or angels). After seeding earth's primordial ocean with primitive life forms, they likely proceeded to do a great deal of genetic engineering experimentation here, creating more, and more advanced life forms, culminating in the human species.

It started with God.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Now pick up a study bible and read on.

In the oceans, or one big ocean? all kinds of chemical reactions took place, the border between life and material is smaller than we think, most likely life started at many places more or less at the same time, some evolved, some did not.
