I need to be able to edit text documents.

32mb ram, floppy drive, 56k modem.
hardisk dont work, cd drive is litterly falling apart.
orignal pentium processor. 9 years old.

You would not get a desktop version of linux in such a form factor, you would need to look out for an embedded version, but that might need some serious customizations to suite your needs.
