Its not what they can't see or explain that makes them fear, its those huge blinkers they wear over their eyes, some people are just so blinkered they can't or won't see what can be explained.

there are basically 2 things that we as a species appear to have natural cautious awareness of from when we are born. That is heights and loud bangs. Everything else is a learned response. So to say it is human nature to fear the unknown misses the mark quite considerably. Fear of the unknown comes mainly from something occuring during our formative years such as getting frightened by something in a darkened room say, or as is mostly the case, it is NOT actually the fear of the unknown but rather the fear of losing the known. Because we have a tendency towards getting comfortable with our thinking, anything that takes us outside our comfort zone, creates an internal anxiety response. This we then project out onto the 'unknown' confusing ourselves as to the origin of our negative feelings.

Human Nature... over the years only species with a healthy fear of the unknown have been selected for survival. The dodo bird was fearless, they would walk right up to humans and look what happened to them.

Everything in life is hollow, look around and tell me what can be explained. Everything is built out of nothing. We use it, but have no idea where it comes from. Much like hamburgers, no body knows as a child that a cow died for your meal.

I think the fear of the unknown is always greater than the culprit itself. Just like when you go skydiving for the first time or ride a roller coaster.

People don't like what they can't understand. It's the natural, primal instinct to distrust the unusual. Just like teenagers who don't like anyone who is "different" in the group.
