Also, in addition to shredding mail, what else can be done to protect yourself from identity theft?

Check your credit report often. Do like you're doing with shredding your old mail/junk mail etc. I do believe that Mexico's a good part of what we've been seeing with ID theft, they've got the strongest motive/easiest access etc.

They used to talk about have's/have-nots. This is really the case with Mexico, although there's more money in Mexico than I think they let on, a lot of their people are dirt-poor. With poor border enforcement, a lot have come to the US to try and get something. But, because of the lack of a good guest-worker program, and lack of good co-operation throughout the years between all the different people supposed to try and keep an eye on all of this, I doubt anyone's really got a clue how many illegals we've got in america today. That's a Big Problem, and at the end of the day, a good way to protect ourselves is to ask that businesses do more to protect themselves and us as consumers. International business, sure, but with some safeguards developed from looking at history, too.

Listen the so called illegals are too busy looking for work or working, and even hiding from themselves to stael identitys, most cant even speak English, and most I.D. thefts are of English names. What to do ? Go like me , go the old fashioned way , I do all my busisness in person, no computer for me , I burn my discarded mail, I give no information over the phone. Since I have different last names I can use , I use them and only my lawyer, bank and church knows my real one.

Until recently no one had even coined the term identity theft; and no, I am not afraid of illegals stealing my id; this is so rampant, and it can be proven that it is being done by other than illegals only.

I do nothing to protect myself from identity theft because I have bad credit. I'd pay somebody to take it. As for an illegal immigrant stealing it, they wouldn't get too far with my real name. Kind of paranoid, aren't you? Or are you trying to get tips to beat the system yourself?

Are you people really this afraid of "illegals" What about the Americans that have been doing this all along? Were you that concerned then? Did you protect yourself from them? Why all of the sudden are the illegal aliens being blamed when all the stuff you guys bring up has been happening for ages right here by our own people???????????????????????????
