Its best to not say a word to them!

sometimes that really can't be avoided, or how will people you care about know what's what in a situation? It's not really a question of avoiding arguments but how you express whatever it is you want to say. There's always a nice way and a not so nice way. Depending on the subject even put as diplomatically as possible may cause arguments but avoiding the issue altogether is worse. Resentment will creep in otherwise. Better clear the air and tell them you still care for them anyway.

I'm not sure you always can, it depends how heated they get...opinions sometimes differ and as long as it can be resolved then there shouldn't be a problem. It depends on the circumstances, are the arguments started over the same thing by the same person??? Maybe try and discuss why you argue??? Is it possible for you to take a different level and stay calm without joining in and adding fuel to the fire. Try not to let an argument snowball...eg one thing leading onto another. Resolve your differences asap. Look at why they start. You are obviously suffering from a level of frustration as you posted this question. Different characters and temperements can be enough to kick things off. I hope you can resolve your issues.

Read Im OK your'e OK by Thomas and Amy Harris, this is about transactional analysis, one of the most accesible psychoanalytic tools (see link) and really helpful for relating better to those close to us. You could also try listening more and acknowledging the other persons point of view. If you feel angry or upset tell them that you feel angry or upset - but always make it clear that you are not angry with them - only the behaviour or what they have said - i. e. it is not that you think they are a bad person.

Sometimes arguments are unavoidable - just be careful not to let your emotions boil over, once you have gone beyond a certain point it is impossible to stop - remember it is no good counting to 10 - it takes 20 minutes for the body to return to normal once the adrenalin has started pumping. Keep practicing.
Good luck!

This seems to be an age old question and there still isn't an answer that really helps.

You will have these arguments and what you have to remember during the heat of it all is that you do love this person and you don't really want to hurt them.

Keep it clean and don't dwell on it. Sometimes arguments can clear the air.

The best thing to do is just to not say anything you know will annoy them and if you know that something you do or say is going to start and argument leave the room for 5 minutes or so and let things calm down.

hey man, firstly u should think about the consequences of ur actions and secondly, do u care about them so much that u would rather lose a friendship/relationship ova a stupid little thing? so ja my best bet is to think it through first

oh and another thing, if it is something serions then just first make sure that u r close 2 them and they respect u before u talk to them. if ur not then they just wont listen.

Keep your distance for a while and, if this person really cares
about you, she will come back without the arguments that irritate
you.

I'm no spring chicken so I reckon I know the answer to this,in short,........keep your mouth SHUT, until you have got your brain into gear and are happy that you WILL keep calm, and that what you are about to say is constructive. If you can't manage the last three, just keep your mouth shut.

Most times you can't. Life can get a bit tricky. If they really care about you then they will stick through it no matter what.
