For me to say there is nothing after death would be just as absurd as religous types saying there is something after death. No one knows the answer ... no one.
But ...
My lack of belief in an afterlife is based on my meager understanding and observation of the world.
Religious types base their belief in an afterlife firmly on unsubstantiated doctrine established in a time when man also believed in the concept of spontaneous generation (i.e. a pile of rags "decomposes" to form rats).
When you loose your keys, do you presume a mischievious leprechaun stole them from you ... simply because you don't have proof to the contrary?
I hope your answer is no ...
Why then do so many presume there is an omnipotent, all-powerful creator simply because we do not have proof to the contrary?
These two rationalizations are equally justified ...

I'm more agnostic than atheist. i believe there is a lack of proof. I don't agree with many atheists here who beleive that lack of proof is proof. I'm more or less indifferent towards God and God's existence. I don't beleive we need to prostrate ourselves before God to prove that we are worthy. I believe in justifaction through works not through faith. So I try to be a good person and I try to do unto others.

I come the following specifically to respond to questions. Christians in certain want to spread the be conscious and make pretend accusations about Atheists and others so I enlighten them. i'm certain for the hardcore Christians my enlightenment falls on deaf ears. yet there are some who're at a loss for words about what they believe and that i only supply them something to imagine about. there turned right into a couple of minutes in my existence even as i changed into leaning in the route of Christianity, then I study the total bible and am very much surprised human beings believe it. for sure i imagine many Christians gained't have study the total bible. If I were to believe in a God, it does no longer be logical to settle on the Christian God.

If you can show me how to prove something doesn't exist, I will be more than happy to use that formula and see what the results are.
I can give you a formula to prove the existence of anything, anything you ask. I cannot give you a formula to prove non - existence of anything, it's impossible. Can't you understand that concept?
I'm not saying as an absolute that there is no afterlife. I'm saying there is absolutely no real proof that it exists, do you see the difference? I hope there is an afterlife, I just don't see anything to prove it.

There's no convincing evidence that God or an afterlife exist. I've answered this before. You can check out my Blog for a more complete run down.

I believe there is ample proof that consciousness is the product of the living brain, that damage to the brain results in damage dysfunction or absence of consciousness. More than enough I think to say that death of the brain results in death of the consciousness.
Your consciousness ceases to be for long periods of time while you sleep when you're not dreaming. I expect being dead to be like that, only permanantly.

I agree with you. the theist and atheist are arguing opposite sides of the same unanswerable question. We must try to save all we can of both of them.

Atheists do not believe in a higher deity, that's it. Why is that so difficult for people to understand ?
