Career 72 fights 69 wins 55 by KO 3 losses
World heaveyweight champion from 1937-49
He made 25 unbeaten defenses of his title
He is renowned as the the greatest heaveyweight of all time by most judges ahead of Muhammed Ali and Jack Dempsey
Of his 3 losses only 1 occurred in his youth. That one was against Max Schmelling in 1936 where he was ko'd by Schmelling in the 12th round. However in the rematch in 1938 Louis destroyed Schmelling, hospitalising the German. The other 2 losses were his last 2 fights.
Louis was really the first heavyweight to combine massive punching power with very fast hand speed. Unlike Ali who had faster hands, Louis had the ability to knock out an opponent with a single punch from either hand.
Of all the possible heavyweight fighter combinations from different eras the one which most boxing enthusists would love to see, would be an Ali v Louis match up at both their primes
WHAT A FIGHT THAT WOULD BE

Well i think you are a bit confused. There is Mighty Joe Young a big King Kong type character http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mighty_Joe_Young
and then there is the boxer, Joe Louis known as "The Brown Bomber"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Louis
Then finally there is Joe Lewis the English goal keeper
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Lewis
You can read each link to see what each did to get their respective names
