The wine is pure wine made from grapes and guaranteed to have no chemicals added.
Red or white, it is then changed into the blood of Christ under the appearance of wine when the Priest says the words of consecration "This is my body." , "This is my blood".

I'm sure it is just some cheap red wine. Red representing the Lord our Savior. Not all catholic churches give it, and I have noted that many other churches are following suit and giving wine as well but individual disposable servings. Interesting.

The parishioners are not usually given the wine. This is something that is done, after the blessing of the sacrament, by the priests, alter servers and lay minsters. I don't think it matters which type of wine. What matters is the symbol. If you want to know for sure, a church minister could tell you that.

Most give red wine...it symbolizes blood, so why not? Some churches substitue grape juice.
