According to Forbes, Here's a list of the top 10 in the US.

Rank Hotel Location Starting rate
1. The Mansion at MGM Grand Las Vegas $5,000
Here's their web site:

2. The Point Saranac Lake, N.Y. $1,250
3. Little Palm Island Little Torch Key, Fla. $1,095

On the above list, The Point at Saranack Lake NY was number 2 and cost $1,200. It's gone up to $1250. Here's a description of the room, called the Iroquois/
"Iroquois was originally built for William Rockefeller's daughter. This room is furnished with a queen-size bed which faces a large fieldstone fireplace. A private door leads directly to a hammock overlooking the water. There is also a walk-in closet with a full-length mirror. Wing chairs flank the fireplace, and bookcases are filled with period novels. With an original bathroom, Iroquois has its own special ambiance."

As you can see, you can rent the whole place for a night for a measly $19, 650.00...what a bargain!

If money is no object then there are a lot of "fancy" hotels in LA. It all depends on what you want to do while your there. Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica is lovely and there's lots to do in Santa Monica/Venice. My personal pick would be the Hotel Bel-Air, but it's up in the hills and not near restaurants or shopping. The Hotel Roosevelt is really happening in Hollywood if you're into the club scene. If you're not going to have a car (horrors!) then you really need to stay some place within walking distance of your interests. Hope this helps.

If you mean City of LA, I'd have to go for the Arco Towers (I guess, not to much down there.) If you meas SoCal.... I'd ahve to go forthe ole standby.... The Hotel Del Coronado!
