Leaving out all the arguments for and against Israel.

BBC news reported people carried signs on the protest in central London on Saturday that said:

"We are all Hezbollah"

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/5248916.stm

Under the Terrorism Act 2000 part 13 (1) :

A person in a public place commits an offence if he-

(a) wears an item of clothing, or

(b) wears, carries or displays an article,

in such a way or in such circumstances as to arouse reasonable suspicion that he is a member or supporter of a proscribed organisation.

Hezbollah is a proscribed organisation in the UK.

Surely a sign saying "We are all Hezbollah" may arouse suspicion that this person is at least a supporter of a proscribed organisation.

I know public order is paramount, but why can't these people be identified and arrested afterwards, whether you agree with there cause or not, it seems clear to me that they are breaking the law. Have our police have again failed to uphold the law.

I disagree with Charles D and I do actually know a bit about law.

Carries or displays an article in public in such a way or in such circumstances as to arouse reasonable suspicion that he is a supporter of a proscribed organisation.

This sounds fairly clear to me. Surely "We are all Hezbollah" constitutes material support by having an article that says not just "We support Hezbollah", but that "We are Hezbollah". Sounds fairly clear to me.

Surely saying "we are all Hezbollah" is acting for a terrorist organisation ..... I don't see how this legislation could otherwise be interpreted.

All Brits, write to or email your MP and demand an explanation!!!! Nothing will ever get done otherwise. Answers, democracy in action!

To add to my defence against Charles D (am not picking on you, but you do raise a good point and I like a good debate) surely my interpretation of this part of the Terrorism Act is what the original legislators intended. The fact that Judges have interpreted it in your terms is a mistake and the legislation should be re-interpreted as it was originally intented. They wouldn't have made it so clear initally otherwise.

Am sure they will look at the CCTV , last time the police looked at footage from people with banners saying "7 7 on their way" the police didn't manage to arrest or convict anyone either....

2006-08-06 09:24:00 · update #5

ok to those who think I'm anti free speech and anti war protesters I am not at all!!!! I am just trying to establish if they broke the law.

If they had said "We support Hezzbollah" I actually wouldn't have had a problem with it, as it is right for a person to express those views if he wants .... If the sign said "We should support Hezzbollah" .... then this would be illegal and seen as supporting a terrorist group.

My point is does by saying "We are all Hezzbollah", does not the person carrying the plague not at least imply membership of the group ? What does he have to do to get arrested , carry a membership card?

You must investigate more...

They might say "we are all Heazbollah" because our government treat all of them as Hezbollah.....

Hezbollah is the only one to fight for the Lebaneeses, it is easy to project it self as resistance agaist the Zionists.

Those peoples are angry, and they have reasons. They have the right to say that, because if we act like that, freedom will disapear.

The Queen and Blair, and many other's key persons are Illuminatis.....we should be able to areest them like you say but we can't. So if we do this medecine to the People but not to the Elite, what is the point....

Free-masoney, Illuminatis, Death Clan, Jesuits, all dangerous secrets societies, why aren't they treated as terrorists, they plan a world reduction of population of 80 %, and far worse....

They are the Illuminatis, and they own you,
This is the New World Order, and it is your future if the world don't wake up :

And this is what Bush’s minions had to say in 2000;-
"Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor"
Project for the New American Century (2000)

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”
Hermann Göring(Nazi) 1946 Nuremberg Trials

"We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order."
David Rockefeller: Statement to the Untied Nations Business Council in September 1994

"For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with other around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that is the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it." David Rockefellers memoirs (2002)

For Goodness sake!!!!!
We are going to arrest people for carrying around a piece of cardboard? Is the world gone MAD?
This is completely out of proportion.

Actually, I disagree. Public order is not paramount, there are sometimes more important things, but I cannot see much of a threat to public order here.

If the public order act really does mean what you say, that people should be arrested for such non-crimes as carrying a piece of card then it is a very bad act, and needs to be revised, or the law will be brought into disrepute.

I don't actually know what the people meant, nor I suggest do you.

Charles D wrote "The difference is that when the Terrorism Act refers to a "supporter" they mean a material supporter, one who is actually acting for a terror organization. Not "supporter" in the sense of, "I think those blokes aren't all bad." It only seems clear to you because the Terrorism Act is badly written, and these fine distinctions (which are understood by the government and judiciary) are not made clear to the population."

Good Answer. I have to agree with you. I think you should get the vote. I took the liberty of adding "judiciary" too.

However that doesn't change the fact, Hezbollah is still a Terrorist organisation, and the behaviour of many Stop The War demonstrators is tantamount to Incitement to Hatred.

Evening Standard 2 August 2006
Hezbollah has said "Israel is Useful because it is Easier to KILL ALL JEWS if they are in ONE place".
"But the hysterical Anti-Israeli media and naive Protestors here Miss the point that, for Al Qaeda and Hezbollah, Jews are the personification of the West and Enlightenment - they are Us and We (The West) are Next".

Aljazeera.Net: 3 August 2006
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's President, has said the solution to end the conflict in Lebanon was the "elimination of the Zionist regime."

Fighting For Peace and Justice

"I'd Rather be a Hammer than a Nail" -- Simon & Garfunkel

The Spectator 5 August 2006
Hezbollah Cells await Iran’s Orders.
At a recent Stop the West rally (yes, I know, but that’s their real agenda) demonstrators waved placards proclaiming ‘We’re all Hezbollah now’. Really? If so, why were they allowed to parade in Trafalgar Square? In a sane society they should surely all have been arrested as a self-proclaimed army of holy warriors whose explicit aim was to murder untold numbers of innocents, destroy Britain, America and the free world and subjugate them to the Dictatorship of the Ayatollahs.

Because that’s what Hezbollah is. Literally designated the Army of God, it is a military force funded, trained by and answerable to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Iran that is pledged — as it has been since the Khomeini revolution of 1979 — to the destruction of Israel and the genocide of the Jews, as a prelude to destroying the West and infidels everywhere. The Iran that is steadily developing nuclear weapons so that it can achieve these aims.

Many on the British Left mistakenly believe that Hezbollah is merely another Muslim liberation movement to add to its collection. (The thinking which leads the Left to classify genocide as liberation is a story in itself.) As a result, the comrades of ‘Stop the War’ march behind placard images of their new hero Nasrallah, while George Galloway MP proclaimed at the demonstration, ‘Hezbollah is not a terrorist group and I am here to glorify the Lebanese resistance movement.’

In Britain there are thought to be relatively few Khomeinists compared with Sunni terrorists. But there are enough to form a serious potential security threat if Iran decides to unleash Hezbollah against targets in the UK. And that is now a real possibility.

According to German and Israeli intelligence sources, Hezbollah sleeper cells are present.....Margaret Beckett has told the Commons that ‘there are indeed concerns’ about Iran-backed terrorists attacking the UK.

And now Iran has explicitly singled out Britain as a target for attack - not because of Lebanon or any other recent event.

In an Iranian TV interview on 23 July, Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed that ‘England was the founder of this sinister regime’ Israel and, like America, was ‘an accomplice to all its crimes’.

Interesting point: The word "Assassin" actually comes from Arabic. It was coined from a secretive extremist Shia Arabic-Iranian Terrorist organisation based in Lebanon and Iran called the Hashisham (Assassins) of Alamut. They were founded by Hassan i Sabbah of the Persian Ismai'ili sect in 1090. Their Mission was to kill Western Infidels and Crusaders, but they also killed a lot of other Muslims they did not like. They also conducted lots of Suicide Missions. They were major players in the international Drugs trade. The Assassins of Alamut, it is said liked to imbibe copious quantities of Hashish before they assassinated someone. Hence the origin of the word "Assassin". The Assassins were finally destroyed by the Mongols under Genghis Khan. This was greeted with much joy by orthodox Muslims. The Assassins have been a blue print for many of the modern Terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah. The more things change in the Middle East the more things stay the same!

I agree with you. The world MUST crackdown on Islamic extremism, and must deal with those who insite hate, including in protest. Unfortunately, the West has been wearing silk gloves with Muslims, affording those inciters far too much freedom, something the Muslims would NEVER allow had the situation was reversed.

It is of paramount importance to take pre-emptive strike against Iran, where its leader (Ahmanijad) is calling for the annhiliation of a whole country (Israel), and threatening other countries. Had the world stopped Hitler when he continued to incite hate and profess his intention, there would never have been a Holocaust or a WWII.

For those who believe that the extremist element in Islam is small, the numbers are staggering. There are 1.2 billion Muslims in this world. Lets take a very liberal view that only a very small percentage of Muslims are exterme, while the rest of the Muslim world is very peaceful. So if only 10% of Muslims have extreme point of views, and may be a threat, and must be dealt with, meaning dealing with 120 million Muslims! How about 1%? Then you must deal with 12 million Muslims. How about 1/10 of a percent? Then you must deal with 1.2 million Muslims. The numbers are staggering! How do you propose dealing with even the "very low" figures of 1.2 million Muslim extremists?

It's time to act, and it's important for each and every one of us to contact our government for action on this urgent matter.

Deal with Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran, and you shall have peace in the Middle East. The extremist element of Islam MUST BE and WILL BE dealt with. So it is written, so it shall be.

final Saturday's turnout grew to become into massive, and for when I felt incredibly pleased with my fellow Brits as we've been marching to Trafalgar sq.. regrettably issues spun out of control while the police have been given slightly too in contact later on, outdoors the Israeli Embassy, and what could have been a non violent protest grew to become into spectacularly ruined. although I shall easily be attending this one. The war is plenty from over yet, my comrades.

The last time the Police arrested protesters in london It was for incitement. The placards read "death to those who insult Islam" we are all hezbollah means "we are all party of God"
Where then is the reason for Police to arrest anti war protesters? You can put your money where your mouth is, ask for the police for the video and take the protesters to civil court; you are going to fail big time.

The British government are too scared to deal with Islamic extremists - they just let them **** all over this country and its decent ordinary hardworking people. they are letting us down.

They let scumbags Bakri and Abu Hamza stand on soapboxes in London ranting about death to all British people blah blah and did nothing about it. They treat filth like this with more respect than they treat the ordinary decent folk of Britain who pay their taxes and cause no trouble!!!! Thank God Hamza is now in jail and Bakri has been deported (although the cowardly **** is trying to get Britain to take him back because he's scared of the bombs in Lebanon heheh!)

I would arrest anyone who voices support for an Islamic extremist organisation and deport them out of the country. I would also keep a close eye on all mosques and muslim societies which have had even a sniff of extremist involvement. To hell with "freedom of speech" this country is becoming a bloody war zone! You don't let your enemies march all over you.

I am sick of ranting Muslims crapping all over my country and its people. 7/7 must never be allowed to happen again but it will if the Government remain too spineless to clamp down on these bastards.

As mentioned, odds are they'll be arrested in several days time after the cctv footage has been studied and they've crosslinked it to the the database, giving them names and addresses. If I was one of those people I'd be getting several t-shirts printed saying "I'M NOT A TERRORIST. POLICE DON'T SHOOT ME"
