This generally is an assessment of a child's ability to cross the midline. A child who has difficulty crossing the midline (using one hand to go across from the left or right to the other side of the body) can have other difficulties (such as walking in a coordinated way). This inability to cross over is something that can be worked on in the classroom (painting on an easel), but may need the assistance of someone who is an occupational therapist.

Inability to cross over usually means the child is not ready to learn to read yet. It has to do with the left and right side of the brains forming and developing.
