If you bought the house, anything left by the previous owners after closing is now yours. You can spend it or do whatever you want with it. If you're really nice and might suffer from a guilty conscience, you can try to track them down and give it back.

most people that move out of a place are pretty thorough, and wouldn't leave a big pot of money behind. so you have to wonder who left it and why. i would turn it in and after a certain amount of time, if no one claims it - its yours. that way you'll feel better about it and you can enjoy it in peace

I would think, in this instance, that you could do that - since you bought the house and own it, it's not the same thing as finding a wallet or bag of money on the streets.

Turn it into the police and then if they can not find the owners of the money, you then get to have it. Right now it is not rightfully yours to keep.Do the right thing.

No, it's a setup. Someone is testing you. There are probably hidden cameras watching it. What are you going to tell the drug dealers when they come back and want it?

It doesn't belong to you, you can't keep it, and you will feel terrific when you do the right thing.

I hope the owner splits it with you as a reward. I would!
